What an idiot. It would be impossible to keep all roads ice free in winter all it takes is a bit of rain to wash away the salt and them a cold spell and it doesn't matter how good the roads agency is it's unreasonable to expect them to keep roads completely ice free. OK an inexperienced driver might get caught out but any experienced driver should be able to anticipate icy roads. Next it'll be someone who crashes because of leaves on the road complaining they weren't swept up and trying to sue. It's autumn you should expect such things. |

Interesting Post..... My brother was on his way home one evening in very rural Sussex when a deer leapt a wall in the pitch dark and wrote his car off as well as Injuring him quite badly. On reflection, he now must sue for the authorities allowing Deer to raom about the Countryside. ![]() ![]()

Re: what a pillock
When black ice is forecast, the local authority, like many others no doubt, grit the roads. Fortunately we don't get much of it. I have never heard of anyone wanting to sue!

Re: what a pillock
If we had an absolute sure fire Met Office who could accurately predict every turn in the weather, he may have a point, but we don't. Even If we did, to predict black ice down to one stretch of one road is nonsensical. Back In the 70's my husbands brother sadly killed his Fiance on New Years Eve. The police confirmed he was absolutely in no way to blame. He had travelled that road on his way to visit family with no Ice on the road, Yet there was black Ice on his return just one hour later. The first attending Ambulance also skidded and crashed getting to them. By the time police got there 20 minutes later, the Ice had dissapeared.

Oscar do you remember the MP who crashed on black ice in Cornwall. It was quite a few years ago now. |

Re: what a pillock
My wife got hit from behind at a roundabout (she started moving off and stopped as a speeding car shot on to the roundabout from her right) and the other drivers attitude it was her (my wife's) fault because you are not supposed to stop once you start moving off at a roundabout. she was so convinced she actually went to the police who very carefully didn't want get involved and told her to let the insurance companies sort it out-which they did and she paid for it all. Some people are just so reluctant to admit they have done something stupid or careless they convince themselves they are somehow victims.
Speaking from experience the worst thing that can happen is to have an accident and a witness who didn't actually see what happened but THINKS they know. I was going round a roundabout when a car shot out in front of me so I stopped and my stationary car was struck by a motor cyclist and I found myself being verbally abused by a pedestrian who had heard the impact and assumed he knew who was at fault-all the other drivers buggered off but luckily one did stay and give their name-I say luckily because the motor-cyclist (who was unhurt) later went to the police who didn't charge me but did charge him with driving with no MOT and no insurance-and presumably no brakes) . The policewoman who interviewed me thought it was quite funny as well. If somebody skids in to you on an icy road it's their fault- or if you lose contyrol and hit someone or a tree you are to blame-it's staggering the number of people that would think they weren't to blame but would agree with this numpty. |
