im so sick!!!!!

Two weeks ago tomorrow i fell and fractured my ankle, some bloke was kind enough to practically carry me back to my house and i rang an ambulance, sobbing and in horrendous pain. However the woman on the phone felt she had to remind me because of the snow, there were quite a few like me,, also road accidents etc and the obvious obstacle of the snow on the roads and traffic etc so could i please bear with them and they would be there soon as .. thats fair enough. Even though i eventually waited one and a quarter hour for the ambulance i was just pleased to finally see the paramedic, he was in a car but said the ambulance was 2 mins behind,, which it was,,but oh dear ,, they didnt have a splint! so we then had to wait for another ambulance to be sent, we were assured one was being sent, then they rang the paramedic back to say we have had to stop that one as it didnt have splints either and they were sending another, funnily enouhg at this point it was the paramedic who was annoyed and frustrated,, i was high on morphine by this time so didnt care:)

sooo hey ho.. goes to hospital,, gets suited up for an op... last minute reprieve after some manipulation of the ankle ,, dont need an op woo hoo,, gets a cast on (nice purple colour) and im home by wed teatime with the news i will be getting an apointment for 2 weeks time.

That appointment was today. Everything went ok ,,had x ray,, doc says its healing well no problems,,, needs the cast to be on a further 4 weeks and still no weight bearing all that time.. oh well. so off i go to reception to get my appointment. this is where i lose it... the receptionist says oh sorry cant get you in for 4 weeks ,, tut oh well it will just have to be 5 weeks.

err oh thats ok then,, i will just sit on my arrass another week shall i cos you cant fit me in.. fgs,, what if i was working and wanting to get back?? as it is my hubs is working less to be here looking after me at certain times. so then when i am saying to her no i wont wait another full week,, she finally goes off to see the consultant , comes back and confesses there is no way she can put me in that week as the doc is on his annual leave so wont be there,, and the nurse led clinic she was trying to get me in isnt on either as the nurse isnt there as its half term!!!!!!!! Im just looking at her stunned by now. I just had to say to her in the end, im so sorry just give me the appointment as im losing my loaf and i know its not your fault and dont want to take it out on you. She had tried her best but what can you do when the doc is on his hols(docs have to have hols as well) and the nurse who would take over is also off work as its half term and she probs has kids to look after...and the powers above think its unneccessary to provide any cover for this whole week as lets face it ,, they can just wait a week longer... cant be much inconvenience to us can it!

so yes i have to wait 5 weeks to get this off my leg instead of, oh well im sure i wont be that sick of sitting around after 6 weeks another weeek will be just great!

aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaggggggggggggggghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh:mad:

and yes i know there are a lot of people a lot worse off than me but at this moment i am so annoyed!:-5:-5:-5

Oh Kaz, I know the feeling very well from first hand experience. Years ago I had to undergo ankle tendon repair surgery which put me in a cast that came to just below my knee. I asked how long I would have to be in a cast and they told me 6 weeks. I also could put no weight on my ankle and dang near killed myself trying to use crutches :wah: After 6 weeks I went to get the cast off (so I thought) by the surgeon said he made a mistake and I had to keep the cast on for another 6 weeks! It was Summer time and the cast was causing me to itch like crazy and my leg would swell. I begged him to take it off or make the cast shorter (no way would he do it). The ONLY good thing in your situation, IMO, is that you did not require surgery and it's healing on it's own. Heck, take advantage of being waited on and take this time to enjoy just relaxing. Good luck to you Kaz :-4

oh i have torn ligaments before but didnt need a cast ,, tendons are worse i think. Honestly i would have coped better had the doc said sorry its gotta stay on five more weeks or even six,, it was the fact it can be taken off in 4 weeks,, just that theres no one available to do it!

i hate this lap top as well:-5

i hate this lap top as well:-5 Kaz, I'm so sorry about your accident. I know the NHS can be very annoying at times like this but I would Imagine the hospitals saw a big Increase in fractures when we had the snow. Mr O also went tit over arsse on Ice on the Saturday night but he was OK due to landing on his head. :sneaky:

I can not honesty complain about the NHS as they have been life-savers for Mr O and I have family in the NHS who get equally as frustrated with the wait to see patients. I know how you feel though as my brother wouldn't even bother with them and went private when he fell from his horse but that's OK if you have the funds.

Anyway, I do hope your feeling better very soon. :-4

Some of them certainly need some people skills. I think It depends on what hospital you are unlucky enough to get. Mr O is seen at two hospitals here and I can say they are both marvellous.

My line to obnoxious staff is always 'Have you always been so damn rude, or have you had training?'

I'm sorry about your fall Kaz you must have been in agony waiting for that ambulance. :yh_hugs

The NHS are in the gutter as far as I'm concerned, My 32 year old Nephew went to A&E because he had chest pain and they discharged him with laryngitis,

within 3 hours he had a massive heart attack and passed away.

They never did a ECG on him!

My Uncle collapsed just before xmas the hospital got him on his feet and sent him home despite my aunts concerns.

He was treated over xmas by the family doc and district nurses who treated him as a malingerer.

He is back in hospital and has only days to live as his organs have failed and has septicemia.

He is 55!

I can appreciate the NHS are understaffed and so overworked but in My opinion they should take on agency staff so the patients can get the care and attention that are due to them.

i was in agony,, the last time i had that much pain AND gas and air was when i was giving birth:wah:

Abbey that is shocking and tragic about your uncle and nephew:mad:there must be so many stories the same as well. Its all down to money as ever ,, and yes there are a lot of good things about the NHS but that dont excuse the mistakes, uncaring attitudes or downrght stupidity of the times they get it worng.

Oh Kaz,, so frustrating isnt it,, and i see it from both sides. The specialist my daughter sees has no people skills and i work in same hospital. But hopefully where theres a bad situation there are a few good ones as well.
