Welcome to ForumGarden. I lived in Wales on and off over the years and I sometimes get to the Pontardawe Festival, that's one of the high points of the summer when I can manage it.

What part are you from Spot? Can`t believe there are so many Welshies on this forum, I can argue in Welsh now!

Pontardawe is a mere 5 miles from me, a very Welsh speaking village indeed!

The whole valley's beautiful. I lived for a while on the edge of the Brecon Beacons and I've friends from Mumbles so I've been to Swansea quite often. Rhossili's a favourite day trip from where I live now in Bristol.

Ahhh, Rhossili - `the supermodel of all beaches`

We take these beaches so much for granted as they're only 20 miles away, I think they're only now getting the recognition they deserve.

Mae'n flin, beth ydy `Sann a Fib a tha mi?`, os mae e beth dwi`n meddwl, fi'n credu mae'n `Sut ydych chi'n heddiw?`

And for those non Welsh speakers, a translation

I'm sorry, what is `Sann a Fib a tha mi?`, if it is what I think it is, I believe it's `How are you today?`

Would love to speak Scots Gaelic, the only thing I remember is `Tha an t'uisge an` - it is raining.

Know a little of Irish Gaelic, `Cad e mar a tha tu`, how are you? and Pogue mahone!

Wasn't ignoring you - I've only just got back online, what part of Australia do you live?

I should make an effort and visit one of the most amazing countries in the world - you're so lucky!!

PS, I think you said Welcome to the Garden in Irish?

Mi duilich, tha e euceart. (Trans: I'm sorry, you got that wrong.) "S ann a Fib a tha mi means "I live in Fife".

Dynabertawe;880410 wrote: Know a little of Irish Gaelic, `Cad e mar a tha tu`, how are you? and Pogue mahone!

Scottish equivalents:- Cia mar a tha thu (How are you) and pòg mo thòn (to which I reply kiss you own).

spot;880494 wrote: That's one of the most vitally important phrases in the language, mind. Few others are said as often.

It's only a vitally important phrase when we get caught in the English monsoon (AKA the cricket season). A much more useful phrase is slàinte mhath - a fact which is extremely well used by Spot.
