What makes you smile ?

Post by G#Gill »

This thread or one similar may have been posted before, but I cannot see it so I'll just carry on ! :wah:

It makes me smile to start a day with gloomy clouds then part way through the morning the sun breaks through. The day seems to be so much better, and I notice that people seem a lot more friendly too !

When children are playing in a play park, pretending to be some character from a video they've seen - takes me back to my childhood when I used to play cowboys and Indians and climb trees to 'escape' an Indian attack, and I smile - childrens' imaginations are wonderful things ! :D

You can't beat a toddler on their voyage of discovery.

Being able to stand for the first time, making recognisable sounds, or when a piece of music makes them excited enough to dance.

Oh yes, toddlers dancing :-6. My eldest granddaughter sent me a video of her 16 month old son dancing to a Thomas the Tank Engine programme. So uninhibited and wonderful. And the openness and innocence of little ones make me smile.

I saw a pic on someone's FaceBook or something once with the words that sum my feelings up quite nicely...

"Hearing someone say 'You've Made My Day' makes my day".

Also, when I hear little kids being polite. It shows there's hope for us all yet.

Early morning, dead quiet.

A chill in the air when neither a neither a cricket chirp or a leaf rustle such to deafen the ear.

I suppose it would be in the city.

Living in the country, I find it enchanting.

Even better, is to add fresh falling snow and so quiet you can hear the sound of the flakes landing.

I remember exiting the car somewhere in Scotland, stepping outside and being amazed to hear.................................silence.

We had traveled a winding upward single track kind of road, pulled onto a kind of car park, in front the view rolled away downward, looking down a valley into the see able distance that went on forever.

Not unlike many other Scottish views, but this time there was not a sound, no wind, no running water, just silence. It was that quiet we stood and listened to it.......and years later I still remember it.

I've always found the country to be full of noise. Birdsong, wild animals, farm animals... All sorts of things. It's just that when all that stops it's usually indicative of an impending storm or something.

A sound that really makes me smile is hearing a blackbird proudly singing for ages on a summer evening. It takes me back to when I was a child and we'd be in the garden, mum reading, dad snoozing, and my two brothers and I would be busy playing with various Dinky toys. There seemed to always be a blackbird sitting on our house chimney singing the most beautiful song, evening after evening. He was very black and we 'adopted' him and we called him our Blacky, such a proud bird. :)

Last house we live, when we bought it was very quiet, almost like in the country.

I didn't realize the completion of a freeway almost a mile away would change that.

Really have to complement CALTRANS in that it was constructed in a way to minimize the noise. It was just at the lower limit to be heard.

Enough to be heard, 24/7.:(

Funny how I couldn't understand a word of the intro, but with the singing every word is crystal clear (although it does annoy when the audience pipe up in the middle of the song).

I clean for a gentleman in his mid 80s who has had several minor strokes and whose mobility is now severely restricted.

I usually leave a note for his son when I want to vacuum upstairs as the staircase is a narrow, winding cottage type and the vacuum is a Dyson original and weighs about 3 tons!

I forgot the note last week and so today I had to struggle to carry the cleaner upstairs myself. This lovely gentleman saw me struggle and told me he would carry it up for me if I couldn't manage! Bless him! His comment made me smile in that "oh, isn't he lovely" sort of way.

The sun makes me smile, :-6 particularly at this time of year. When I woke this morning the sun was shining with a big welcome for the world. It is 1st November and well into Autumn. The temperature is likely to be in the 60s F. Although there is a breeze to keep the temp. down a little in the shadows, I still smiled and thought that the longer this weather carries on, the shorter the winter will be............................. and the less I will need the central heating ! I smiled again ! :-6:-6 :D:D

Hearing Hubby laugh.

Looking at photographs.

Receiving a new Stephen King book in the mail.

Holding a new born baby.

Listening to an old song I like.

It is 5th November and the weather is, I think, at last beginning to behave more like Autumn ! My husband did the grocery shopping today and amongst all the usual items were a couple of punnets of fresh English strawberries and a pot of fresh cream. I was so surprised that they were still available in the supermarket and at the same price they had been all summer, particularly when I thought that last week's fresh English strawberries would probably be the last of the season ! I smiled :D

Fair enough. My apologies, I didn't think it would upset anyone.

It won't happen again. I will look for a site where people don't mind a bit of fun.

So, let me see, now. You invite this person to join you at a site you are new to, and then you're going to leave the site because that person complains about something you posted?

Well, it is pretty 'cheeky'.

And, yes, very "Benny Hill"

And might even test the theme of this thread, but I, for one, did get a good laugh out of it.

And I'm pretty serious, usually.
