Three years ago to the day, I missed seeing this obituary notice which has now come to my attention.

I have no recollection of the public argument in 1978 to which it refers. I have, however, vivid recollections of James Earl Jones' one man show with Burt Wallace at the piano, a... [Read More]

That's how many criminal drug convictions have been thrown out in Massachusetts because of tampering with evidence by ONE person.

In what may be the single largest dismissal of wrongful convictions in US history, Massachusetts prosecutors announced Tuesday they would throw out 21,587 criminal drug cases. The cases were all

Shattered is a book just out about the Hillary Clinton campaign and it's failure (mainly hers) to win perhaps what was thought to be the most winnable election for a democratic presidential campaign in history.

I haven't read it, however, I did read the review on the NY Times website, and it isn't pretty. There is, for some reason, what... [Read More]

The June 8th 2017 General Election

Jeremy Corbin is scheduled to be crucified regardless of what he does. He can say no to the election and be ousted as Labour Leader, or he can say yes to the election and be ousted as Labour Leader. I suspect we're about to watch a Conservative landslide.

I shall, as always, be voting against the Conservative incumbent.

Wolf Hall

Public Broadcasting is currently running a series from the UK called Wolf Hall, The story of Thomas Cromwell, first Earl of Essex.
It is a bit dry, and the stepson and grandkids got bored rather quickly, and left us to enjoy it in peace.
I've read a bit on the period, and watched a series that focused on Henry VIII and his split with the Vatican, but now to see the events from the perspective of others is enjoyable.
I have enjoyed Damien Lewis in a number of roles. He... [Read More]

Paul Scofield

I found a clip on YouTube of the opening scene from Amadeus at the National in 1979.

It finishes just seconds before one of the most theatrical moments I can recall. Paul Scofield as Salieri turned anticlockwise through a three-quarter circle, with his back for a second to the audience. He started the move as he is at the end of the clip, old and angry... [Read More]

Unlikely assertions

I just found the following on a web page.
it has become commonplace to wear leggings instead of pants in almost every informal social situation.
Even discounting the problems of translation from whatever language that's written in, I claim it is unlikely to be true.

My personal testimony is that I have never owned a legging, much less worn a legging, not in the privacy of my own room behind locked doors, not in a retail outlet, not on public transport.... [Read More]

I spent an evening this week considering whether a holiday might be educational and found by the end that I'd booked flights and dates. I stopped before I rented a Mini Elite Convertible. Trains and the occasional bus will be more sensible.

How is everyone? I have not been on in a long time and I remembered how I loved this place and I have missed it. So now I am determined to make up for lost time. Not sure if anyone will remember me. I'm an Irish lady who now lives in Hamburg Germany with her two cats and wonderful hubs. I hope everyone is having a great day and happy easter :-)

Well, today's been quite an eventful one. As usual (on the early shift) I'm the first one in the office, and this is what I walk into. Today is a celebratory one as Utilita signs up its 500,000th customer. Champagne & nibbles all round (with specially recruited waiting staff to serve it all to everyone while they worked). Also was a £20 Gift Voucher for everyone. There were also the longest remaining customers there, along with their families - each of which was given a year's... [Read More]

There are certain people in our media who you know youll miss when they evrntually go. And john clarke is one of them.
A comic satirist, genius, all round nice guy.

He had a way of attacking the absurdity of politics without attacking the politician. Im going to miss the weekly Clarke and Dawe skit/interviews.

And strangely , i think John would see the funny side of dying during a healthy activity.

The BBC and Impartiality

Apr 09, 2017 - 2:07 AM - by spot
spot's Avatar
I had thought the BBC saluted the concept of impartial broadcasts.

This morning, a few minutes after 9am, I turned on Radio 4 while brewing coffee the way you do on a Sunday morning and there was a chap. On the steps of Portland Square. With the entire band of the Coldstream Guards in full uniform. And they brass-banded their way through Who Do You Think You Are Kidding Mrs Merkel.

The BBC's patriotic bias in the Brexit debate is starting to show.
