Clodhopper's suburban wildlife tips

May 22, 2017 - 6:00 AM - by Clodhopper
A fun time of year: the chicks are out of the next and following their parents to the feeders in the garden. I had a family of Great Tits here an hour or so ago - about 6 chicks. Hard to count as they were hopping about.

Something else that is really popular in my garden is the birdbath. Sparrows, tits, robins, starlings, magpies and pigeons have all used mine both for washing and drinking. In general it's good for their health to be able to get a decent wash (and they are very... [Read More]

The real reason why Comey was fired

May 21, 2017 - 4:43 PM - by katsung47
960. Silk Road Forum (5/13/2017)

Trump fired FBI Director Comey. There is a big argument. I think it's part of the Feds' plan - "Drain the swamp". To have a FBI Chief of their own. The last FBI director who left the post without fulfill the full ten years term is Louis Freeh. Both left on my case, I think.

Louis Freeh's case: I (Kat Sung) am the target of the Feds. They plotted to eliminate me in a framed drug case with Chinese secret police. The Feds... [Read More]

Trump: Foreign tours are a bad idea when insecure at home.

May 20, 2017 - 5:09 PM - by Clodhopper
Rule of Power no 1 (Or somewhere close): Do NOT leave the centre of power when you have enemies plotting at home, unless you take the enemies with you.

Theoretically things should move fast in the US now the President is out the way. However Trumpolini has shown an ability to confound precedent. His supporters seem to show no ability to see fault in him and there are a lot of them.

Comey kaboom or damp squib?

Jerusalem Artichoke

spot's Avatar

I have just prepared a Jerusalem Artichoke salad. I took a Jerusalem Artichoke, peeled it, shredded it, put it on a plate and squeezed a lemon over it.

I have just eaten a Jerusalem Artichoke salad.

I have no idea why I do these things but I thought I might ask the panel whether this dish can improve and if so, how.

The Rebel Wilson defamation trial thread

spot's Avatar
Rebel Wilson, Hollywood actress, returns to Melbourne to testify in defamation trial.

I've heard it said that no publicity is bad publicity.

This trial may prove to be the exception. How the complainant can take exception to the events she's complaining about will no doubt emerge but so far I can't guess.

The Red Tent

Bryn Mawr's Avatar
I came across this TV mini-series last night and found it fascinating.

It's about Jacob and his twelve sons (Genesis chapter 34) but is told from the perspective of his one daughter (Dinah) and, although it's a Biblical subject the treatment is human, straightforward and it does not gloss over or attempt to justify - the end of the second episode covers the son's massacre of the men of the city of Shechem.

Has anyone else seen it? What did you think?

How to get your melons to bear fruit faster ?

May 19, 2017 - 7:20 AM - by JohnAlexGardeners
JohnAlexGardeners's Avatar
Melons (Cucumis melo), or more specifically muskmelons, are part of the Cucurbitaceae family with watermelons, cantaloupes, and timun suri. Just like other plants in the family, muskmelons vine but do not ‘climb up’. Unsupported, muskmelons would just vine all over the soil surface.

The ideal place to farm muskmelons is at 250-700 m above sea level.... [Read More]

I've Just Heard Some Chords.

May 18, 2017 - 7:31 PM - by Mark Aspam
Can anybody help me embellish "I've Just Seen a Face" on guitar?

Following the intro (which could be a topic by itself), the basic chords are, in G, "(G)I've just seen a face I can't forget the time and place where we just (Em)met, she's just the girl for me and I want all the world to see we've (C)met, ny ny(D) ny nana (G)ny.....(second verse "Had it been..." with same structure).

Chorus: (D)Falling, yes I am (C)falling, and she keeps... [Read More]

Police who fabricate evidence

I'll drop a URL here if that's okay.

We can discuss what emerges once the trials are over.

The police seem incapable of preventing units from going rogue. It happened to the Birmingham Six, it's happened since, and the fault is institutional. Nothing exists in the police system to proactively prevent corruption.

McDonald's advert

McDonald’s has apologised for any upset caused by its new TV advert, which has been accused of exploiting childhood bereavement, but refused to stop it from being broadcast.

I thought the advert was cute, clever, no big deal.
Is this PC gone mad yet again ?
Or is it I suspect a clever advertising stunt by McDonalds ?

The NHS, and the opening of a Microsoft document file with macros enabled which resulted in the local network privilege spread of ransomware.

No, NHS, you cannot blame your front-line medical and secretarial staff.

If you're NHS IT and you're responsible for a network, then simply ordering your staff to behave in a hygienic way is not adequate protection. If you now have a ransomware infection then it's a management fault for not testing the environment your... [Read More]

I was happy to see that Macron beat the Le Pen.
Since then I have looked closer, apparently his wife is old enough to be his mother at 24 years older, they met when he was 15 and she was his drama teacher.
So far not too bad.
Now I have discovered he is an ex banker, so presumably further right of centre than is healthy.

Why is our political system throwing up these sorts of choices ?
