  1. Well it's being floated again...the debate on the change of the national anthem

Every time there's a problem nationally or a disaster or whatever this debate comes up time and time again. I'm asking for your opinions. This is the present anthem. In my opinion it's dull. And basically doesn't apply to me because I'm female. Nor does it apply to the indigenous of this...

  2. Sometimes it's good to be the king. :)

Woke up at Five this morning to a beautifully clear star filled sky on the Gippsland coast. The southern cross lowering on the horizon just above the ocean. The Milky way strewn across the sky like someone had taken a giant paint brush filled with glitter paint and brushed a continuos line from...

  3. The Apology

A most prestegious historical moment in Australia today.!!!!!!!!!! The wording of "the apology" is going to be read in Parliament for it's first sitting. I dare not speak of it around my own town because there's some pretty strong feelings against it here. BUT I"M STOKED !!!!!!!!!:D i'll be...

  4. Alby Mangles

My family was hooked on Alby Mangles 8-9 years ago. There was a show on our Travel Channel here in the states, and we'd never miss it. In the Steve Irwin thread, I read some comments by AussiePam about other people in Australia who are/were popular. She didn't mention Alby, and I was wondering...

  5. John Clarke dies

There are certain people in our media who you know youll miss when they evrntually go. And john clarke is one of them. A comic satirist, genius, all round nice guy. 6. Euphemistic truth

Began this thread because of what Spot said in another thread that was right on the mark . Our Prime minister (a rich business man) has been selling off Australia to the highest bidder ever since his party came to power. (Abbott was booted by him recently) but he did warn us with 'HIS'...

  8. Great Southern Land

Yes , not just a song from Icehouse but a television series on ABC . I largely ignored the series when first run but a cold and rainy day will have you feeling too lazy to change the channel on its second run. Its a doco on the everyday way we live and operate, being quite different to the rest...

Major problems plagued the internet site last night. Millions of people going to one site was going to be trouble enough. This used to drive my mum nuts!!!! And in time it drove me nuts with my own kids. In this clip it might be vegemite and margarine, but I'm sure it's the same story in other countries with other substances. this is an old clip but I believe still true to form today.

  15. forced marriage in Australia don't have to .

We are talking about 'forced' . In essence and by law it's only "forced" that the law complies. There has been an alert to teachers to keep an eye out for this situation but the existence of muslims schools is making it much more difficult to save girls from this situation.

  18. 1932 in Australia....very exciting times.

Probably the most eventful time in Australian history. And by far the most exciting. I'd like to begin with Jack Lang who by todays paralells would be seen very differently. An yet the economic crisis is much the same. You see he's the bloke who stole his states money so the federal...
