  1. Wood Floors - How do I get the shine back?

We had wood floors installed at our home and I'm just wondering what is a good product or a homemade one of making them shine like they did when we first put them in. They seem dull. All suggestions welcome.

  2. House smells

Does your house smell? If it does do you notice it or just presume it smells due to what happens within it. I'm a smoker so presume it smells of smoke to some degree but dont notice it as i'm quite psychotic about opening windows ect. I have 3 dogs so presume it smells to some degree of dog but i...

  3. using dripping in cooking

If I wanted to make up " dripping" i.e.; saved meat juices to use for cooking, can I mix the meats I use? Googling led me to beef dripping, duck dripping etc but no mention of just combining it all into one dish to save. I know I used to have dripping sandwhiches as a child which were delish. But...

  4. Sliding glass doors

Have you gotten any lately? My husband wants new ones and I'm sort of on the fence about it. He wants the kind that have the internal little mini-blinds. Any experience pro or con? We wouldn't be installing ourselves, but any hints/tips would be appreciated, thanks!

  5. Silk vs Rayon?!?!?

Just inherited a beautiful tablecloth but Dad is a guy and doesn't know and Mom has Alzheimer's so can't ask her... what I would like to know is if anybody knows a non-damaging way to determine if a cloth is rayon or silk. I can't get any threads from a seam or anything to test and I really am...

  8. Community Supported Agriculture

I bought a CSA share yesterday in a nearby farm for a proceeds of their yield once a week from mid May to the end of November. This venture is new to me so this will be a learning experience in economics as well as providing ample healthy fruits and vegetables for quite some time. Im so looking...

  9. Question What to do with an extra bedroom?

I've recently purchased a home which has 5 bedrooms. While we only needed 4, I couldn't pass this house up as it is literally the house of my dreams. I'll share a list of things we do NOT require, either because we already have that space or our family has no need for it: spare bedroom home...

  10. Thumbs down Reducing The Cost of Living

 I've found probably the biggest challenge for me is keeping down every day costs when you have a fairly large family living in the UK. I have followed the example of Paul Daniels, the famous magician who has consolidated all of his services on one eay-to-read bill and thus saved over GBP...

  12. Living Room Decorating

Living room decorating [Advertising link removed] is always a hot topic in house fix up. And there are a lot of people ask for good ideas for their living room design, they even pay much on decorating consulting. In fact, if we have some color collocation knowledge, we can make a perfect living...

  13. Air Conditioner

Today was the day we finally turned the air conditioner on for the first time this spring/summer. Temperatures are in the mid 80s (F) and it's been raining on and off for the last few days so it's very humid, heavy and although not hot, it's uncomfortable. It's been a cooler & wetter than average...

  17. Saving Is Something You Should Do Every Day

Americans have forgotten how to save in recent years. First, we came to regard the stock market as our piggy bank; if we needed a little spending money, surely we could always sell a few shares of stock or a bit of a mutual fund at a profit. Then, we viewed our houses as money machines that...

  18. Would you complain?

We bought a new sofa, it was delivered today. On the middle seat the leather has a very small 'nick' in it so it looks like a white spot. 20. Holy expensive deck, Batman!

I'm not sure of the exact square footage of my front deck, probably about standard master bedroom size or so, but the quote we got to replace it with Trex? SIX THOUSAND DOLLARS. I'm sorry, but any money like that we have is going into our retirement accounts! So, last week I demo'd (yes,...
