    America is Shutting Down

Starting with the school that I teach at! We just got told yesterday evening that the schools will be closed for the next three weeks.

We also were informed that we will not be able to enter our school buildings for the whole next week. Last week, we spent time planning to teach by remote learning, and I'm pretty capable in that area, so I'll be making videos and uploading them to YouTube. Then I'll assign them to the students through our online platform Schoology. The students will download the assignments, then upload them back to me.

    Welcome to the 21st century...

All the local colleges and most of the school districts around here are taking the same tack.

And, I just heard from a former co-worker in Texas. He was supposed to be up at the company offices next week, and we were going to get together. The office has closed and all employees are told to work from home.

Since the COVID has shown up in Vail, and a couple of the other ski resorts, most of them are closing early. Too bad, with all the snow lately, they were looking forward to extended seasons.

    Our school districts are closed.
    Local colleges are closed.

our stores have signs posted to limit the amount of products you can purchase.
I'm receiving e-mails from our local stores " Safeway is clean & safe". really?
Our Costco had to limit the number of people entering - full to capacity. People waited for hours to pump gas.

No sports - no gatherings - no concerts - nothing festive here. We're on lock down.

Oh - all Casinos are up & running... LOL

I'll not be surprised if the Easter school holiday is extended beyond 12th April in England, but the current term is going to run through to the normal end on 27th March. We have abandoned all live sports crowds but that's about it. The Scots have shut indoor venues for over 500 people which leaves most places open.

The annual local elections for all representation short of Westminster MPs has been cancelled, the next elections will be in May 2021. The announcement was that May 2020 would coincide with Peak Virus here, which isn't that bad an approximation. The last half of June would be more likely for the UK but I doubt most people would have gone to the poll in mid-May.

Daughter Stopped by WalMart today, and said she found the shelves nearly empty. Dried Beans and Pasta, Breakfast cereals, Canned foods, Paper products, all shelves were empty.

    This is kinda getting weird.

Our neighbor is a Mormon, and they have been locked in their house the last three days.

Was thinking to start a blog - the last tourist in pompeii. Flew back from Naples on wednesday to stanstead then on to edinburgh. Don't think i had it but you never know what being inn a metal tube for three hours breathing recycled air will give you. Currently self isolating as per instructions.

Everything shut down until the 3rd of April. All the tourist attractions, the restaurants and the hotels , (I got put in a separate annexe) I lost a holiday these guys in the gig economy (which os wonderful of it suits you but if you have no other choice and need two jobs just to get by it is no fun at all) have lost their livelihoods for a month, working from home sounds nice most people can't actually do it. Got talking to a girl from new zealand first trip home in 11 years touring Europe and visiting relatives kind of put it in perspective lost a weeks holiday and can easily go again there are a lot of people on once in a lifetime trips affected by this.

You shall have the ForumGarden Bravery Award for 2020 and welcome to it, at least the airports let you back home without taking you to Liverpool for a fortnight. I take it you didn't use Ryanair, since you managed to travel.

I hope you're clear of coughs or worse, though it looks like we'll all have to do it at some point during the next few months. A warmer time of year seems friendlier, that's all.

Congratulations though. You brought home unusual memories.

    Re: America is Shutting Down

Actually it was ryanair then easyjet to Edinburgh. Ryanair were stopping all flights from friday. The airport was deserted and all afternoon flights seem to have been cancelled originally I was supposed to be flying on friday and easyjet were saying their flights were still on but one of the main reasons I used a travel agent is in these circumstances it's up to them to get me home so they organised all the flights. Most travel insurance will not cover you in the event of something like this so I'm out of pocket but at least not stranded. Will still claim at least for the taxi to the airport but I'm not holding my breath.

The closure was quite sudden. I was in the ruins having got there as soon as they opened and at 10.30 a siren went off and they were going round telling everybody to leave so I got a refund and left. You're out in the open I didn't think they were likely to be closed and cancelling my holiday would have lost me everything. Even Vesuvius was shut to the public presumably because you have to travel by bus or taxi. The bus is 3 euro 50 Pompeii to Vesuvius. if you are ever there avoid the organised trips and guided tours.

I went to my local Safeway store - I needed the basics - bread-milk - eggs & some beef Safeway had on sale.
Safeway was completely out of the beef on sale - none.. No Bread to be found..
No Milk - NONE.. Absolutely no paper products no napkins no paper towels amazing- no cleaning products NONE... Shelves were empty

And the store was packed full of people - the man in front of me had his cart full of BEER...LOL
That's one way to get through all this..!
