Even after you win the Lotto, you'll still do something useful. Work can be many things. Although I do not make money doing this, every year I start at least 3000 flower plants from seed. I give around half of them away. That's work, but it's enjoyable. You'll find something to do that will keep you busy... and with the Lotto winnings you'll have plenty of possibilities.

    What is retirement?
. I have left my career job, I have left my secondary job, yet I am still working part time and intend to remain active in the community and online.

    Am I retired?

After some of the things I've learnt in my training I don't want to stop, there's just as many bad things about retirement as there are good.

I want to remain active for as long as I'm able, if if that means slowing down and only doing little things with any luck this will keep me healthy for longer.

    Letha,
Have you decided on what type of nursing you will be getting into? You demonstrate the compassion that is needed for the profession. I hope that you consider geriatrics: with your attitude and optimism you would contribute to the longevity of those you care for.

Re: 30 more years to go till retirement

Thank you, I've worked with the elderly for 10 years now and I'm one of those bossy nurses that tells them to do it themselves and "no, you can reach that, I'm not here to wait on you hand and foot". Obviously it's for their sake, not because I'm nasty or lazy.

I plan to go onto midwifery when I finish general nursing, but of course in general wards there's more elderly than young patients, so I'll never get away from them as I'll be doing a bit of both once I'm qualified as both.

    Letha,
Come on over to this side of the Pond, we need good nurses in the US.

The best retirement jobs are related to thing you love. My father (now 90) became a bridge tournement director in his late 70s, going on cruises and being paid to do what he enjoyed the most.

Plan is Austrailia, once I'm qualified in both general and midwifery... Already checked out the visa stuff.
