    An update:
    The cop was convicted on all nine counts.
    The Elk's behavior was examined. He had been a bit rascally, but was not found guilty of anything warranting his demise.

    That must be a first, a cop found guilty of "doing his duty" - you never know, they might have to apply the law if it carries on this way :-)

    Au contraire. He was circumventing his authority, hunting out of season, discharging a firearm in the city limits, bribing a law enforcement officer, and more, and then using the supposed misconduct of the elk to justify it when he got caught.
