How should an Englishman say LEVER ?
Why am I hearing it said leva, rather than leaver ?
I thought I knew more than this until I opened my mouth

It's because of the referendum. Push the Leaver has a different connotation nowadays. I have to hold on all the time

It's just another Americanisation (N.B. "Americanisation" spelt with an 's', not a 'z'). With the lowering standard of U.K. made T.V. & hte increase of American Dross, the younger generation are learning from their environment - i.e. American T.V.

One thing that really grates on me is the pronunciation of 'Year' as 'Yur'.

I expect you pronounce it Leeva? with that really annoying questioning intonation made famous by Neighbours and Home and Away

It's Essex for leather, maybe you're confusing the word. Or they think levers are made of leather?
