    Baseball Brain Buster

Many years ago, I had a clock-radio that woke me every weekday at 6am.

It was tuned to a station that had an hour-long news summary every morning.

At exactly fifteen minutes past the hour, there would be a "daily puzzle".

The answer would not be given until the following day, giving the listener plenty of time to think it over.

I was usually able to solve the puzzle, but this one was really tough, and here it is, with the quoted matter my approximation of the puzzle as presented:

"We've all heard of game-ending bases-loaded home runs, where the home team is trailing by three runs and then ends the game with a grand-slam four-run homer.

"That doesn't happen very often, but even more rare is the FIVE-run homer. How is this possible?"

I wracked my brain but could not think of any situation that would allow a five-run homer. I waited patiently for the answer on the next morning's broadcast.

But I forgot to set my alarm and woke up too late to hear the answer. DANG!!

I thought about it for weeks...months...YEARS, but could not come up with a solution.

Then, just a few years ago, my son and I were discussing the matter, and we THINK that we have the solution.

Would anyone else like to try? I'll reveal our answer in a week!

    Mark,
I don't believe it is possible for the 5 run homer.

you'd have to add another base???

    I'll wait for your answer.

    A: Bill Mazeroski

    Tude
    Walk Off Home run is

Hit the home run the bottom of the 9th or extra innings

The home run ends the game.

Perhaps you know how I felt when I went to the pub with some Brit co-workers, and they all started in on the Cricket tournament.

I did figure out what the Batsman is supposed to be doing, almost.
