Dogs have Masters. Cats have Staff.

Re: Dogs are much smarter than cats

Dogs generally much smarter, agreed. Cats governed much more by instinct.

Mind you, some dogs...you look at them and think more neurones doesn't mean smarter...

Dogs have empathy. Heck they are emotional mirrors! Cats...not so much. That's a lot of brain power, empathy. Perhaps the difference between a pack animal and a solitary hunter?

Both are more intelligent that most humans, these days.
It may not be so much that I've conceded your point as that you just can't hear me rolling my eyes.

This is a fascinating two part documentary which explores how the close relationship between people and dogs began and it’s evolutionary importance.

Dogs That Changed The World: The Rise of the Dog

I can't imagine the pesky cats can compare.

I find mine theraputic - you can't control a dog if you are bad tempered or feeling stressed you have to relax . I've got a border collie like the ones featured in your documentary the problem solving ability is quite startling at times.

Re: Dogs are much smarter than cats

As a result of helping a friend I now have a moaning spoilt rotten but basically decent lapdog (and 2 cats) in my house.

There goes the nature reserve I'd made my garden into

I was brought up with dogs but am long out of practice (no dog I want would I have in London) but I'm stuck with this one. I have established I'm top dog through whacking him if he attacks me. I think things are improving but any tips gratefully received.

Cloddy. No tricks. Like a child....immediate correction ....thats it. no tricks.immediate. if they were in the wild they would be seen to immediately if they misbehaved. So do what nature intended. "DONT FRICKEN DO THAT AGAIN!"..... works for dogs so why not humans to dogs.?

Gmc......border collie? Glad youve got the space.

Thanks. Reinforcing what I remember. chuckle. It's taking me a little time to think dog again though!

My estimate of his intelligence and learning ability is pretty high. I've been told his breed but can't recall it. Lu Tzi or something vaguely reminiscent...
