Burn out or fade away?

Would you accept twenty years of extraordinary happiness and fulfillment if it meant you would die at the end of the period?

I answered yes..NOW. But I am 52. In 20 years I will be 72. Time enough. If I had been asked 25 or 30 years ago, maybe my answer would have been different, I don't know.

I'd assumed that the choice was made early in life.

Absolutely positively without a doubt YES. I've had enough crap to last me a long lifetime. I'll take 20 years of bliss any day.

OK Bill, let's turn that one around. If someone chose to have 20 years of extreme happiness and then die, would you think bad of their decision? Personally I'd miss the dickens out of them but they would have had those 20 terrific years. I couldn't value one over the other (long life or extreme happiness) for them but I wouldn't begrudge (is that the right word?) them choosing either. And I hope they would feel the same towards me.

At what time of life would the 20 year period start?

I would choose long life, because life isn't just about being personally happy, and going through pain and problems is part of what being human is. There may be no guarantees in life, but then again there aren't that many being dead either are there?, and who says the afterlife is eternal bliss, or nothingness, it might not be either. Anyway, I have the rest of time to be dead, so I think I will take as much of being alive in this world as I can.

NO who can guarantee either ?? So I would choose to live my life as long as I possible could hoping along the way to find happiness for what ever time I could.:D Both are choices to a degree that we all have to make at times in our life. Happiness isn't just given to you (wish it was) it takes work. Living a long life isn't all genetics you have to work at it as well daily.:-6
