Lars, nobody's mentioned the death of Dick Gregory who might be considered a contemporary of Shelley Berman, though few comedians could have had more different styles or lives. That thought occurred to me as I was looking back at Shelley Berman's life and found "Curb Your Enthusiasm" described as "Black Comedy" which gave me several blank moments before I remembered what the term actually means.
If you have impressions or opinions about Dick Gregory we could knock a few posts about, either here or in a dedicated thread. I think he mattered from the moment he became visible to the public, but I doubt if he was ever uncontroversial regardless of what he was doing.
