Unexpected travel plans....

Have you ever heard the name of an unknown place when you spoke with someone or saw this place in a movie, tv or newspaper? Did you wish to know more about this area, researched it and then travelled there?



Perhaps you could share how you found this place, and why you enjoyed it so much. Maybe you could place a picture, link or youtube so we can also explore this area.

One of my closest friends had committed suicide. A close group of our friends got together one weekend, with his grieving wife, and tried to console her and understand why he committed suicide. It was a wonderful weekend because we talked all weekend about our friend and individual experiences with him, and we found closure about his death. We all grew from that experience.



Soon after that I watched the movie "The Big Chill." I know it's a chick flick and in many parts depressing, but it's a great movie. I felt that movie was also about my experience and saw that it was filmed in Beaufort, South Carolina. So that was my destination.....



I drove to South Carolina and spent a few weeks in Beaufort and Fripp Island. Now the area is becoming too commercialized, but it's still worth a trip.



This was my first trip to one of our southern states. It was also my first trip travelling alone in the States. It took 17 hours to drive there. I was simply enchanted by the South Carolina and all of its people.



Beaufort and Fripp Island are absolutely gorgeous, warm and exciting. I loved staying at a fantastic resort called Fripp Island Resort. My rental home was beautiful and cheap at the time. It had 2 floors with an outdoor jacuzzi and view of the sea.



Each day and night was a different experience. I spent time exploring the town of Beaufort and Fripp Island talking long, long walks, meeting the people, finding terrific restaurants and pubs and enjoying the sun rising each morning. Many movies have also been filmed in this area which I explored....saw the "Big Chill and "Prince of Tides" homes.
