Songs that make you weak..

Post by flopstock »

There were two songs that got attached to my relationship with littleones dad.. one headlight and the other was a nine inch nails song that was never on the radio so i never hear it.. but when i think about them now, they were pretty damned stupid.:wah:

And I don't even want to discuss the songs that were it for my other kids father and myself... suffice it to say it was the disco era..:o:yh_rotfl

But I watch movies and catch a song or hear songs on the radio and it's amazing how boys I thought I loved beyond measure, pop into my head.. Incense and Peppermint... my first official boyfriend got me that for christmas..:-4

The songs diary and Everything I Own ... I have a vivid picture in my head of that boy.. he was awesome!

So let's hear them... what songs can do it to you?

Underneath the lantern,

By the barrack gate

Darling I remember

The way you used to wait

Ah, those were the days.

Seated one day at the Organ,

I was weary and ill at ease,

And my fingers wandered idly

Over the noisy keys.

I was never as distinctive as Jimmy Durante, but if she played it then I sang it.

This is another we rather enjoyed but I had trouble with the high notes.

Oh the Springtime, that is coming

And the girls are in a dither.

'Tis the Wild Mounting Time

And I am wondering whether

Do you go, Lassie, go

And will we go together

At the Wild Mounting Time

Or will I get Bloomin' Heather?

Do you go, Lassie, go?

I so wish I could post a recording of it to the thread.

Thanks Spot !!!!!!!!!!! GEEESCH.. I'll be singing Mountain Thyme all day now - . There is an expression for having one song in your head, and it only leaves when replaced by another song??? What the heck is that word????????????????????????????

If my true love he won't go

I will surely find another

To pull mountain thyme, all around the blooming heather

Will you go, laddy, gooooooooooooo

And we'll alllll gooooo together.. etc

We will all go together when we go

Every Hottentot and every Eskimo...

Ahhhh now mountain thyme has been replace in the blonde singing brain by Tom Lehrer.. this may be an improvement... or maybe not...

"Homes of Donegal" was the song that my relatives sang to me on my 1st trip home to Ireland. I was 19 yrs. old and very immature. I walked into my Father's brother's home at 70 Seville Place in Dublin, and the whole family was gathered there. They all started singing this song to me. This was the 1st time that I met Jim's daughters who of course are my 1st cousins. Oh, we were in bits crying and laughing. My Uncle Jim took me into his arms and we did an Irish waltz to this songi n his wee living room with the wee fireplace blazing. I'm crying now thinking about it.

My Dad and his brother Jim were separated for 30 years...it's hard to explain why:confused:...just very, very sad. THe girls and I are in constant contact, even after all of these year.

Hello Kaylene:-4

Who could sing "I'll take you home again Kathleen" better than Josef Locke:-6

YouTube - Josef Locke - I'll Take You Home Again Kathleen

I'll take you home again, Kathleen

Across the ocean wild and wide

To where your heart has ever been

Since you were first my bonnie bride.

The roses all have left your cheek.

I've watched them fade away and die

Your voice is sad when e'er you speak

And tears bedim your loving eyes.

Oh! I will take you back, Kathleen

To where your heart will feel no pain

And when the fields are fresh and green

I'II take you to your home again!

I know you love me, Kathleen, dear

Your heart was ever fond and true.

I always feel when you are near

That life holds nothing, dear, but you.

The smiles that once you gave to me

I scarcely ever see them now

Though many, many times I see

A dark'ning shadow on your brow.

To that dear home beyond the sea

My Kathleen shall again return.

And when thy old friends welcome thee

Thy loving heart will cease to yearn.

Where laughs the little silver stream

Beside your mother's humble cot

And brightest rays of sunshine gleam

There all your grief will be forgot

The Beatles were fine musicians. I reckon Here There and Everywhere is one of there best. All You Need is Love is also musically very interesting. The opening part is in 7/4 time, most unlikely.

But my favourite Beatles song is Here Comes the Sun

YouTube - The Beatles - Here comes the sun

Another thread mentioned Simon and Garfunkel recently. I like a couple of songs by Paul Simon, on his own too.

Slip Sliding Away

and

Fifty Ways to Leave your Lover
