Greatest Rock Guitar Solos
Greatest Rock Guitar Solos
This has probably been discussed before, a few times.
Its the perenial pub arguement about what the greatest guitar solo is.
The question bought me to this site but it still raises many disagreements. The list will never satisfy all. We all think the order is wrong or our hero is placed too low. For me Carlos is waaaay too low and why isnt Zappa up there ?
The full list can be seen here at....

I suppose we have to think of solo rather than artist. But where is Zappa's "Black Napkins" in the great scheme of things

It all depends on what the criteria is that is involved. I can't imagine some of those solos are listed above Randy Rhoad's solo for Mr. Crowley... that solo alone is amazing on so many levels and some of those solos just don't quite match up. I'm not disagreeing with any of the songs on this list, but... I'm not convinced that they're in order.
Criteria: - Guitar solos are the best display of talent by these musicians.
Each guitar solo was ranked mainly for the overall quality of its composition.
Originality, complexity, influence, and lasting appeal are also considered.
The list still sounds like a popularity contest voted on by Miss America pageant judges. :wah:

He's been around a while. Not really my cup of tea even though he can obviously play. Too much twiddly stuff at 100mph. I prefer a bit more feeling and soul to my solos, such as Gilmour or Beck

Agree..! That's why I reckon Yngwie Malmsteen didn't rate higher..Far too twiddly, and too much hair flouncing going on. I'd much prefer Paul Personne...........

Recent discovery for me. I like you tube-don't understand why artists object if you hear something you like you're more likely to go out and buy the cd-or at least people like me are.

Of course. Google has disabled thousands of music videos on Youtube . They were held to ransom by the PRS. They wanted something like a 600% increase in royalty payments.
The PRS obviously doesnt understand that there are plenty of us who use this medium to find new music, then spend our hard earned buying the CD/DVD.

Maybe the loss of revenue from their artists not being on you tube. will make them do the arithmetic.
Got all of pink floyds albums on cassette tape. Think there's a market for classic cassette tapes?
Just worked out where darn sarf hingland means. Been there-full of foreigners.

I listen to music most often when I am driving and don't actually have a tape player at home. Once I change my car I will have all these redundant tapes-on the other hand plenty are being re-mastered and released on CD so I'm discovering old favourites I got out the habit of listening to. I think you need to throw out the past every now and again just to rediscover it.

I saw him once and I recall sitting there probably with my mouth half open and the chills and goosebumps flooded me.
He uses his fingers on the strings but what comes out is nothing but HEART.

I know the feeling very well. I once posted a response to a Youtube video of a young female Japanese guitarist that everyone was blowing about. I watched a very skillful guitar player. Not a musician. She new all the notes and played them in the right order but completely devoid of any feeling or soul. It dont matter about the odd bum note along as you feel what you play.
Carlos Santana has long been a favourite of mine but I'v never had the chance to se him. I know exactly what you mean about the chills and goosebumps. I cried with emotion at the first Pink Floyd concert. Then cried again when I took my son to his first Pink Floyd concert and saw the look on his face. He had goosebumps. I knew he was feeling what I had felt.... and still do
