(Plus they have a cava for $6 the bottle!!:D )

Anyway, I found CANNED mushy peas!! It was so funny, the first time I

heard of them was on this site and there they were. Didn't buy any,

though, figured they couldn't really be any good being canned and all!!

My mums mushy peas would put any chippies to shame, she uses dried marrofat peas soaked overnight in bicarbonate of soda ( to break the peas down ).

Thanks for the recipe. When the mushy pea craze strikes America we'll blame it all on your mom.

you can buy canned mushy peas over here, but they just don't have the same taste as from the chip shop. It must be all the grease floating in the air that gives them a unique taste (either that or its just physcological!!) :p

Wouldn't the canned peas be like talking about how the canned tomatoes taste like just fresh off the vine tomatoes would?

The only question about the gasses is are they the strong silent type or the loud non-toxic blare(s)?

Wow this sure is an old thread. Ah the joy of the chip. You know we seem to have a million fish and chip shops near us, not sure why but it seems like it's the only kind of take-away that u can get around here.

What, there is actually a thread about chips? Come on, I know people can get stuck for conversation and all that but 3 pages on chips? Whats wrong with cheese? I don't see anyone extolling the virtues of cheddar, maybe thats my cue! :-2

From my time spent in England I made the following observations.

British Beer, Bad.

British Water. Not enough of it, but OK.

British Bread, No.

English Cheese, Very Nice, well the proper stuff, not the EU intervention cheese in tesco..

British Rashers, Also very nice.

British Kebabs, a superior Kebab, there was one in Colchester, excellent my good man, excellent.

British Chipers, fine, except for those mad things in jars they do have like pickled eggs and such like (what is that all about?).

I will say though, I went to college in England, and the SU food was so apolcalyptically bad, it really was inedible, unless you were drunk or dead, which was a common occurence in college anyway so I suppose its alright.

This week in the local chippy, the chips ran out after serving the guy in front of me, so I was at the front of the queue while some more were cooking. Eventually I was served and the girl said "Sorry about the wait"

I said " That's ok, I don't mind how heavy they are"
