Finished chemo 1st May, have been sitting eating most of the time, so have put on a bit of weight.

Have felt tired much of the time, so have eased my way back into doing things around the house, decorated the living room, layed carpet on stairs and so this week returned to work.

I only do 4 hours a day, and couldn't manage that, ended up deciding I shall only do 3 hours a day until my energy levels return.

It appear they managed without me............which came as a blow.

eased your way back in... I thought you meant you've been doing the housework and ironing etc not re-decorating the place :-2: there's no 'ease' there :wah:

Well done though, your strength will re-build and at work they will soon be wondering how they did manage with out you, they are just putting a brave face on things at the moment

Many thanks, it is getting easier.

Problem this week has been knowing if my hot flushes are the weather or whether I have reached 'that age'.

I have been advised to have a two monthly preventative dose of medication for the next 20 months..... given like chemo which technically it is'nt........it's called R Tux or Tox maintenance. It doesn't knock you back like chemo, but it's still 5 hours out of your day........(did I just complain?)

A mate of mine from choir has just started a course of Chemo before he undergoes surgery.

Obviously all our thoughts are with him, but at 82 things don't look good.

Not like me to complain, but have had a nasty throat for a while.

A little tickle, the prelude to a cough started it, then I acquired a cough,but it cleared up......so I let it go.

The throat started to need help swallowing,things just didn't want to go down.

After a while I thought may be it was due to the puffer I was taking daily in the morning, built up allergy or something, so I saw the practice nurse and she changed the type,didn't like that so stopped using it entirely, no great difference to the COPD which incidentally has never bothered me.

I continued finding it difficult to swallow at times, a chocolate bar taken with a cup of coffee at work almost made me choke, it just wouldn't go down without a drink.

I have been having tests over the past two weeks.

Anyway to cut a long story shorter by a small bit.................I had a panendoscopy today (the discharge letter says).

They knocked me out then took a 'large tissue mass' from the left of my tongue base, so my throat is sore at the moment.......but the ability to swallow has returned albeit painful.

The nice Scottish surgeon took a golf ball size chunk out and showed me the blancmange in a screw top bottle in recovery.He told me it was going to be analised (No Bruv NOT that) ....analysed.....in the lab but didn't believe it was anything other than the Lymphoma.......to make me feel more at ease.....right. The Lymphoma Doctor had said it was likely to be that and there was a new tablet that would sort it out earlier in the week.

Apart from the sore throat and feeling a bit woozy/tired everything is alright.

Thought I would just update this ongoing saga and praise the marvelous NHS...............long may they continue doing their fine work.

Go back & read this thread - My experience - Oscar's - our husband's were dealt the same hand and both my hubby & Oscar's beat Lymphoma. and they both had their plumbing problems & re-attached which seems to trigger Lymphoma. ??

Take some time to absorb your news - Know your loved and you can beat this..

I haven't been unwell, I have been having 2 monthly maintenance top ups for the lymphoma, but as I have told the doctors and nurses that treat me, I have never suffered from the illness they are treating me for. The treatment really knocked me for six though.

I understand they caught it early while investigating the bowel issue,and that has been fixed beyond my wildest dreams, no problem there at all.The lymphoma specialist told me early on that it was not curable but treatable and they can control it, that was enough for me. I have resumed work, resumed living as I was before, slightly slowed down maybe but thats aging for you.

The concern for me was whether this latest nonsense is the big C opening another branch, another condition on top of the other two. The surgeon said it was not likely to be the bowel but might possibly be the lymphoma, but he has taken out the lump that was causing me the problem, so hopefully a tablet or two and it will be OK now.

Thanks for the kind words.................I am about to tackle some pan fried chicken thighs and then my first coffee since yesterday morning.

Don't panic !!!!!

Had my check up MRI scan last week, and saw the Consultant on Tuesday, I am feeling fine no problems at all, other than the occasional spot, over tiredness at times, flaky finger nails, nothing to be overly concerned about.

The Consultant greeted me with a beaming smile smile, asked if I had any problems, when I said there are a few things I am concerned about, he laughed and said "See your GP, it's nothing to do with me" So I mentioned my finger nails "See your GP " he laughed. "I have looked at your scans and there is nothing on them to worry about, if you have anything wrong with you, go to see your GP"

Then he said something that I have had echoing in my brain since..........He said "If it wasn't for the tablets you would be dead"

He didn't say "you may not have been alive".....gently worded......same meaning.........."you would have been dead"......wow.

The tablets are now off the NHS list, if he had not prescribed them when he did, he wouldn't have had them available a short while later.

He told me they were expensive when he first put me on them, he told me on Tuesday they cost Â£80,000 a year.....................I still don't know if I am worth it.......I am a tight wad.

How lucky have I been ?

We would never have had the opportunity to enjoy Chicken Fried Steak at the Country Kitchen in Iowa had it not been for them tablets, I guess. (Not that the Chicken Fried Steak was anything to write home about but the company was great.)

I'm glad your with us - as far as dry nails probably due to the meds - do you or have you ever has a Pedicure? it's very healthy for you - I drag my hubby with me & now he loves it.

Yes Patsy, still taking them, and they are still working luckily. There is only the one tablet as far as I know, still under licence or whatever they call it before it is able to be made by other pharmaceutical companies.

One of the questions I asked the consultant was why the medication doesn't affect my toe nails ? He didn't know, it only causes problems with my hand nails. I carry nail clippers and have to cut hang nails several times during the day. I have trouble with peeling an orange for instance due to the nails being so short and weak.

A small price to pay really, but I will never be a hand model now.

I missed Anne's contributions, but it has been a quiet time on FG for a few months, so thought she was quiet too. Recently emailed her and have received no reply, so I am a little concerned.

It's not going to be too big a deal. There two spots, but returned negative, so they caught it early enough, that it should be a quick chop and hang out in the room for a few days, then some scans, and maybe some chemo.

Might not be a lot of fun for a bit, but it will work out.

My 83 year old Mother had a big chunk of her leg cut out recently, Merkell cell skin cancer, scary stuff but so far she's kicked it's butt.

I just had a visit with the Oncologist and we are a 'go' for Friday to do a little resection to get rid of this thing. Seems we got to it in time and there is no evidence of spreading migration.

Been out all week touring the high points of Colorado with two of my cousins.(Literally, we crossed the highest five mountain passes where that can be done with an automobile) Had a great week. Next week will be laid up in for a while after the resection. The hospital has a good Wi-fi, so I will probably be online a bit.

A few tests to confirm all clear, and I'll be good as new, minus a few centimeters or so of plumbing.

So, far the worst part of this whole experience is drinking that nasty stuff they give you to clean out your plumbing.

Probably.

Not allowed to do any lifting or toting for at least eight weeks, so the move of stuff to permanent storage on the West Slope and loading up the SunDancer will have to wait. So will even hooking up the Toad for a a test run.

Probably be more like Autumn before we hit the road.
