Day of the Husbands

Post by Suresh Gupta »

Hindus in India are celebrating today the festival of Karva Chouth. Hindu married women keep fast for health, prosperity and long life of their husbands. Not even a single drop of water is taken.

They will get up early in the morning, take bath and pray. During the day they will prepare special food items. In the evening they will look at their husbands through a chhalni (a metallic filter used for filtering grains etc) and the moon. They will pay their respects to the husband by touching his feet and offer sacred water to the moon. They will also offer their respects to elders in the family by touchung their feet and take their blessing for a helathy, peaceful, prosperous and long life. Then they will feed their husbands and also break their fast.

It really is a lovely ritual. We always mean well, don't we? But we so often forget to really tell/show those we love how much they really mean to us. I know I do. Thanks for the reminder. :)
We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act but a habit.
