Hello you all,

My name is Lucy and I just wanted to say Hi as a new Member!

To work in my garden makes me happy and is a great hobby for me.

At the moment I want to enlarge my garden with new plants and herbs...

It clears my mind and is a good change after a stressful work day!

I also love to be outside in the nature.

I just signed up to get some tips or inspiration for my garden.

Love & Greetings

It sounds like you'll slot in here just fine. We've got quite a few who are into their gardens. Not me, unfortunately. Living in a Tower Block, the only 'garden' I have is a Baby Bath that I keep by the window in my kitchen.

I've only done the gardening thing like four years now. Every year I find the things that don't do well for me and that which does.

This year was really good for cucumbers, cantaloupes, honeydew, potatoes. I suspect watermelon would have done well but due to work I didn't plant any.

Even in good years I struggle with tomatoes. This year lost several plants due to frost and have one left, still producing.

In the past had terrible luck with cilantro, lettuce and broccoli.

Off all things corn has been disappointing.

I have two neighbors who are big time gardeners who are full of advice.

I plan to really expand my garden next year and spend more time not working.

I miss not being able to garden. Loved to dig in dirt, plant stuff, see it grow.

What I really like is that I grow way more than we can consume. It gives me some joy in giving away tasty stuff.

This year we had luck with almost everything we've planted: lettuce, tomatoes, cucumber, potatoes, rhubarb, bunch of herbs like every year (except chives, because of evil cats :D ) and a lot of berries.

Watermelon could be interesting, I should try it!

I'm also planning to expand my garden and also build up a bigger greenhouse. Enough space would be there :)

Good to know, if I need advice I ask you and you ask your neighbours. :wah:

Have a nice day!

My nephew plants a sizeable garden of veggies every year. on a plot of about 40' by 150' they end up with loads of stuff. Peppers, squash, Corn, Tomatoes, Beans, and such. Usually, they end up hauling a lot down to the food bank. Though, this year, the Raccoons have been raiding the corn. Me, I'm lucky to keep a couple of houseplants alive.

My mint's doing very well. I found some sprigs poking out under someone's fence onto hte pavement & managed to pull some sprigs up. Unfortunately because of the way they are so deep rooted most of them never had much root on them at all. However, I planted them in my Baby Bath Kitchen Garden, and just as expected, most of them died. However, after a while of looking very sickly, the runt of the litter actually took root & is now growing well - have just had the first set of flowers from it.

I'm looking forward to when it's sufficiently established to harvest from.

My husbands the gardener in our house :) he got an allotment also about a year ago and we are reaping the benefits. He has decided not to grow as many tomatoes next year though:wah: we are awash with them,, but at least i finally got around to making my own tomato soup,, a lovely roasted red pepper and tomato soup,,delicious. Actually I like to eat tomatoes on their own as well,, cut up and a little salt sprinkled on,, its one of the rare times i eat salt really

Actually, now that I've got my Banana Wine brewing merrily away I was wondering what Tomato Wine might be like. It is, after all, just another fruit, not dissimilar to the grape - in fact it might even be of the same genus.

A lot of people round here leave some of their excess produce outside their houses / gates, etc., with a notice for anyone to help themselves. Others will often take it down to the local Food Banks / Homeless Shelters.
