Glad you like it CinnamonBare and that's a good foot tapper link you posted, nice song.

Here's another one I like....

As a matter of fact I think I'll have my family and friends tapping thier feet and clapping their

hands as they send me off on my final journey while this plays in the background. ;)

This is truly one of my favorites. I don't know if one would consider this song pure gospel, but it does get you going. I've had the priviledge of attending a gathering of gospel choirs and listened to them perform. You just can't sit still. :)

I really want to thank you all for your great contributions, I love them.

Mustang you're latest member to pop in with a fine choice....thank you.

Boogalette and all the others who made postive comments regarding this thread, I really appreciate your words.

Now then, as a young man in the sixties I spent many a happy night in the jazz clubs where I lived, and I became very fond of the jazz scene and its music, so here's an example that will fit in here just nicely.

Though there are many musical variations of this beautiful spiritual song and if you know the words and are a traditional jazz (trad jazz) fan like me, you'll find this version as uplifting as I do.

I hope ;)

Lyrics below :)

Monty Sunshine and The Old Rugged Cross.

The Old Rugged Cross

On a hill far away stood an old rugged cross,

The emblem of suffering and shame;

And I love that old cross where the dearest and best

For a world of lost sinners was slain.

So I’ll cherish the old rugged cross,

Till my trophies at last I lay down;

I will cling to the old rugged cross,

And exchange it some day for a crown.

O that old rugged cross, so despised by the world,

Has a wondrous attraction for me;

For the dear Lamb of God left His glory above

To bear it to dark Calvary.

In that old rugged cross, stained with blood so divine,

A wondrous beauty I see,

For ’twas on that old cross Jesus suffered and died,

To pardon and sanctify me.

To the old rugged cross I will ever be true;

Its shame and reproach gladly bear;

Then He’ll call me some day to my home far away,

Where His glory forever I’ll share.

ps. I may be wrong but I got the impression JL was searching for answers or at least doing his utmost to understand intricate parts of life more fully, when he composed some of his great songs.

Thank you for that one.

Here's one that makes me so very grateful for my childhood. My parents are still young, healthy and in love. My siblings are a hoot and blessings, each in different ways. This song is truly a "family" song. Amen. XOX

The Blackwood Brothers were favorites of Elvis' mother, Gladys, and they sang this song at her funeral. Early this year I saw Jimmy Jr., son of one of the originals, with 2 others, in concert and they told the story and sang this song.

I'd love to hear the story, Zap. Thanks.

I never heard this group sing it and was surprised at the one with such a deep voice. Wow, how they all sing together to give this song such homage. thanks.

When I heard them it was Jimmy Jr. and two others, one of them had a wonderfully rich bass voice. I found some links to the Blackwood Brothers and learned that they sang back up for Johnny Cash and that Elvis sat in on an impromtu session with them in Memphis. This link says that they were asked to sing at Gladys Presley's funeral but it doesn't mention "How Great Thou Art". Jimmy was very specific about it being her favorite song and that it was sung at her funeral.

Fantastic link and pic's, Zap. Thanks. Of course, I love their Johnny Cash connection and was happy to see they've made appearances for the Billy Graham Crusades and the Presidential Prayer Breakfasts. Beautiful.

I've always loved the song, It is well with my soul -- but, I didn't know the story behind it until I looked it up on youtube. My gosh, the man lived a life comparable to Job, and rose above it to give God praise. I also didn't know this song was written in the 1800's ... the video tells the amazing story.
