Origin of this song...

Post by Kathy Ellen »

I love, love, love this song...I'll bid my heart be still...sung by Ian and Sylvia..

I've been singing it forever and just read that this is a Scottish song. Does anyone know the origin of the song and it's history?

Sorry, I can't upload the song as my ipad won't allow this...grrrrrr.. Maybe someone else can help me out....

I can't find it performed by those artists but here's a beautiful piano/viola version.

It's listed in the National Song Book of 1906 and says it is based on a poem by Thomas Pringle and an "Old Border Melody". Here is a link to an old (2002) discussion of it on the Mudcat Cafe. mudcat.org: Origins: I'll Bid My Heart Be Still (T Pringle)

How about the following link.......................

Scroll down, you'll probably find it quite interesting, although you may have already found this before and read it ? Hence thinking it is Scottish in origin, which it seems to be. :yh_wink
