You Americans are certainly blessed with some beautiful creatures AND scenery, to be sure! Spare a sympathetic thought for us Brits crowded onto this increasingly industrialized and beleaguered rock in the east Atlantic.....

What America’s immigrants looked like when they arrived on Ellis Island - The Washington Post

Everywhere around the world They're coming to America Everytime that flags unfurled They're coming to America Got a dream to take them there They're coming to America Got a dream they come to share They're coming to America They're coming to America

Neil Diamond quote

Not like the brazen giant of Greek fame,

With conquering limbs astride from land to land;

Here at our sea-washed, sunset gates shall stand

A mighty woman with a torch, whose flame

Is the imprisoned lightning, and her name

Mother of Exiles. From her beacon-hand

Glows world-wide welcome; her mild eyes command

The air-bridged harbor that twin cities frame.

"Keep, ancient lands, your storied pomp!" cries she

With silent lips. "Give me your tired, your poor,

Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,

The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.

Send these, the homeless, tempest-tossed to me,

I lift my lamp beside the golden door!"

Hubby is recovering today after his first cataract surgery yesterday. By coincidence, I had cataract surgery done twenty years ago by Hubby's doctor's father. I am always grateful for having this surgery done as my vision was indeed improved. Anyone else have this procedure done?

I can't say I've ever heard of Disturbed before, but he certainly does have a magnificent & emotive voice. I wonder if he wrote the arrangement, or if it was written for him.

I'm not so sure I would consider that a cover, though, rather than interpretation. In my view a cover tend to try to emulate the original as closely as possible. This is totally different, taking the aggressive rather than the submissive - something I previously wouldn't have thought would work.

Thanks for sharing.

I've been on about 2/3 of them. I think the most notable of them were the Road To The Sun (MT. We drove down through the clouds) Road To Hana (I have a shirt that says "I Survived the Road To Hana" Sedona (AZ), Rt. 1 up the CA. coast, and Rt. 66 in Kansas, only because I was born close to it.

You have some great sites there! Last year I was in Perdido Key, FL. and it was the most spectacular show I ever saw. All the hotels down the strand and across the water and they would set off one after the other. It lasted for about 1 1/2 hours. Amazing!

Great list of cities, AFTR.

We'll be at the Denver show tonight.

Boulder and Loveland also put on a great show. And tomorrow we'll be at the Greeley Stampede for Rodeo, Barbeque, and Fireworks.

We were at Miami a few years ago, sitting on a friend's boat watching the show. That was great.

The only one on that list I have never been to for July 4 is St Louis.

Hey LarsMac and ZAP! Thanks for posting in my thread.

This Friday, Hubby and I will be on our vacation in the Smoky Mountain area again. I hope to have some photos to share.

This has been some hot summer, and it's not even August yet. I do, however, spend much of my time indoors with the air-conditioner.

The attached photo was taken last winter and is on my Job ID.

Years (and years) ago, I was driving in the Smokies and relaxing in the vibe. I was a little bummed by the fact that I only had another day or so before I would have to leave and head back to the city. I had a tape of an old Firesign Theater album playing in the background. It suddenly caught my attention when a voice on the tape said, "If you lived here, you'd be home by now." That thought ran through my mind for the days I had remaining there and made it even more difficult to leave.

I look forward to your pictures.

Have a great trip AFTR! I just got back from 6 weeks away. It was ok in Kansas, heat records were set in Las Vegas, I was cold in Pittsburgh (my friends keep their A/C very low!) and I slept under covers in San Jose. Now the desert had its hottest day this year on Friday but 1 degree cooler, 117, when I got home yesterday. I'm ready for another getaway!:eek:

Here's some photos from our vacation......

We left a day early because Hubby was feeling chronic pain from a "spondylosis of the dorsal spine and a 1.2 compression fracture". We went to see his doctor as soon as possible after we returned. He's been given pain pills, muscle relaxers, hot pads, cold packs and topicals, but still feels pain. We think he hurt himself when he used his chain saw to cut up a tree that fell on our chicken shed during a storm a few weeks ago. He had no help and had to do this all by himself and just took on too much. So, although I am smiling in the photos he took of me, I was very concerning about Hubby. He tried to enjoy the vacation as much as he could...bless his heart.

The last photo is of the storm damage Hubby has to clean up...........but not now.
