As most British people would know, this country seems to have an utterly appaling rate of 'child crimes'.
Some of the most horrific beatings and killings have been carried out by 12 to 15 year old kids.
When i have any police forums regarding anti-social behaviour in our area, the police seem divided on opinion. Some refer to them as thugs and 'scroats', the rest refer to them as children to be pitied, always looking for that excuse, their home-life, their up-bringing etc.
At the end of the day, 15 year old kids are committing some of the most violent acts this country has ever seen.
Are our police being too soft in allowing their home-lives to excuse this behaviour?
Do we have a 'middle generation' that seems to have bred these mindless, feral yobs? Or is society as a whole to blame?
What do you think should be done with youths like this?
Do you think that at 15 years old, they should be incarcerated for life?

Parents are no longer allowed to discipline their children. These days what use to be considered discipline is child abuse. Children end up thinking it is ok to do anything they want. They have never been taught respect.
Some kids need more discipline or harsher discipline than others, depending on their inate personality type. But they all need discipline. Now everything is the parents' fault. Kids are relieved of any responsibility for their actions....because they "are only kids". But this is a really big mistake. Kids should be brought up taking responsibility for their actions.....being held responsible teaches them that there are boundaries. Without learning there are boundaries, kids grow into teenagers who think nothing they do is their responsibility....its always someone else's fault, never their fault. And they grow into adults who feel that they can do anything they want, and somehow it is somone else's fault. The result is that some kids grow to be monsters. If they feel like being violent they do it, there are no boundaries. If they want it they take it. If they feel like shooting everyone at school over some slight, they do it....there are no boundaries.

I agree with that....
Just to add to that... I also think that a lot of children are no longer taught basic good manners.... in losing that, they've lost a lot of the respect that we who were taught to have good manners and consideration to others show to others...
It's sad really because those things take little time to instill... cost nothing... and are gratefully received....
That now seems to have been replaced with a TV... a playstation and a mobile phone....
no longer do kids 'play' out here, so again, another basic teaching of how to amuse yourself lost .... so when they're out on the street, they're bored!.... and when they're bored, they look for something to amuse themselves... which sadly more often than not results in either vandalism or violence......

Very well said WH, I quite agree.
And to answer Oscar, I don't think prison's the best place for them. I think they should forfeit their freedom and be sent to bootcamp for 2 years to learn discipline and respect!

When do children become adult thugs?
Something that came up recently at a police forum..... A policespokesidiot was saying blah blah blah about how we live in a society where mum and dad have two jobs so the kids don't get the attention they should. Mr Oscar said at the end, "You've just described how i was brought up and i'm a war baby, so where's your excuse??".
Fuzzy says "what were the prisons there for in the 60's? Good point but i don't remember 12 to 15 year old killers. Yes, of course there would have been a few, but not the amount we are seeing today.
Something else that was brought up at the police forum was the police admitting that the kids had absolutely no respect for the authoritie's or the police any more.
Fuzzy is right that this country did have youth crime in the 50's and 60's however, by large, it was gang related when we had sinheads, mods, rockers, hells angels etc.
Often the police turned a blind eye because the one who got a knife in him, was the biggest villain.
Today, we are seeing 15 year old kids STAMPING on people's heads that they have picked off the street and totally innocent.
We even had a 18 year old girl and her boyfriend kicked to death in a park by 15 and 16 year old kids because their crime was that they were dressed as goths. How the hell, can a mob of 15 year olds kick a youn woman to death???? Show me the excuse for them????

Children are products of society. If there is something wrong with the children, there is something wrong with the society. We can't punish them for our own shortcomings.
