Is this the most evil woman in Britain?

Post by Oscar Namechange »

A primary school teacher who got annoyed with the class chatting excitedly about 'Santa' silenced them by telling them 'Santa doesn't exist'.

Complaints poured in when distressed children arrived home and told parents.

The supply teacher was later sacked and disciplined.

This was a very unkind thing to do.

This is not a person that should be working with children. Children are most precious to us and we expect teachers to nuture their dreams, not neuter them.

This person should definitely be severed from any position where anyone would have to trust her with their little ones. I would not want her near my grandsons. It is up to their parents to decide when they are ready for reality, not a person hired to teach. I refrain from using the term teacher because she definitely only considers it a job.

I agree. Mr O and i have just been talking about this and we said, 'what right does this woman have to infere in the lives of other people's children and their dreams?'

What gives her the right to decide before their own parents weather the kids should be told or not?

I'm glad she was sacked.

Santa doesn't exist..!! :-1:-1

She was so wrong in so many ways. How dare her do such a thing. Kids dreams are so very precious and it doesn't matter if he exists or not. She deliberately did this for her own spite.

Okay, she was nasty to the kids and ruined christmas for them.

But the most "evil" woman in Britain? Given the recent Shannon Matthews case?

Hardly.

fuzzy butt;1084171 wrote: What's "reality" about it? My children dont' do Christmas have never been told that Santa exists and they are happy well adjusted children. None of the teachers at our school teach that Santa does or doesn't exist. But a lot of people think the world is going to come to an end if kids dont' believe in Santa.

I don't think the teacher should have lost her temper, but she told the kids the truth . I don't think she should have been sacked but maybe should teach older students rather than the younger ones. For a teacher to come out with this when she is not their full time teacher is a bit silly. Umless she termed it that 'she didn't believe in santa' and it's got all screwed up.

And this comment is fraught with danger!!!!!

""""' 'We told him that she did not believe in Father Christmas because of her religion and he's fine now.'""""

What position does that put the father in when his son really does find out that Santa doesn't exist!!!

What! WHAT DO YOU MEAN THAT THERE IS NO SANTA?

WHO HAS BEEN BRINGING MY KIDS THOSE GIFTS ALL THOSE YEARS?

WHO BROUGHT ME THOSE GIFTS WHEN I WAS A KID?

My older children are forbidden to tell Quin that Santa isn't real....so, we all just tell him everyday that we see elves watching through the windows, etc. We make it fun be:-4cause we really do believe.

IRONY

OED

1,'the expression of one's meaning by using words of THE OPPOSITE meaning in order to make one's remarks forceful, e.g. that will please him (used of something that will not please him at all).

2, (of an occurence) the quality of being so unexpected or ill- timed that it appears to be deliberately perverse.

I think the only issue here is that if a parent chooses to make a decision in their child's life, i.e. the choice to have their child believe in Santa Clause to give them pleasure, this woman did not have the right to over-ride any parents decision making.

These were very young children that would naturally be distressed and the distress was transfered to the parents when their children arrived home upset.

If a parent wants their young child to believe that fairys exist, again, no-one but the parent should be in a positon to decide when to tell that child that they may not.

I don't think she should have lost her job, however she did need training in being more sensitive.

I thought the kid - parent - Santa thing was a game that everyone played along with, smiling in the kind of way that kids' understand. I don't think kids are stupid. They grasp things at a visceral level early on, then grow mentally into the thoughts, when they are ready. Santa is part of our culture, rather like the Easter bunny and the wobbegong under the path, the leprechaun, the fairies at the bottom of the garden, the man in the moon. A fun myth. This time of the year is hard on a lot of busy people, and I can appreciate that the teacher was tired and tetchy. But it's not her place to burst the kids' happy bubble. She is paid to cope with the exuberance of her class.

Still, it's not that big a deal, is it really? Nothing the parents really can't handle, surely..
