Thanks but you realize it's the Nobel PEACE Prize right? Most if not all of what you listed has nothing to do w/the award (offhand I don't have time to comb the entire list) and the question wasn't "what has Obama done since in office" - it was "what has he done to merit this award."

I just figured that the announcement of the award has been so long ago that I wasn't why you would bring it up now, but then I realized sore spots have been irritated again by the speech.

I guess they gave Obama the award because they could and wanted to. It was theirs to give, was it not?

Sorry Saint but the reson you give ( Obama reducing nucleur stockpiles) Is Ballderdash, Piffle and Bollocks.

First of all, the deadline for nominations for the NPP were In two months before Obama was elected and even In the Whitehouse.

Second, He did not Instigate the reduction of any nucleur stockpile. In his Pre-election campaign, he maintained that the US missile shield in Poland would stand and agreed to Bush's plan to Increase the number of weapons. It was only very shortly after he was elected that Russia made the threat that If he went ahead with Bush's plan as he promised the American people, they would Install further nucleur weapons around Eastern Europe. Obama did nothing more than back down to the Russians just as kennedy did when he secretly removed missiles from Turkey during the Cuban Missile crisis. Obama did nothing to reduce the nucleur stockpile, he simply backed down to the Russian threat.

He has done nothing since being elected other than dissapoint, break promises and fail to achieve anything for the good of the US. The health care reform included.

Although our own Prime Minister is not popular at home, he would have been a far better candidate for the NPP. The US awarded him 'World Statesman of the year' this year for his peace work especially for the Palistinian people. At least he has ACTUALLY done some-thing. Obama's award has been described as Controversial. I have another word for it ..... FARCE.

I think they gave it to him, because his story and message was inspiring to most of the world. It's practically a made-for-Disney movie. And for not being Bush. :)

Jakarta, Indonesia (CNN) -- Indonesians have paid tribute to Barack Obama on the eve of his acceptance of the Nobel Peace Prize.

A statue of the U.S. President, who lived in Jakarta, has been unveiled in a park in the Indonesian capital.

The almost life-size statue depicts a 10-year-old Obama, wearing school-boy shorts with his outstretched hand holding up a butterfly.

The U.S. president was born in Hawaii and lived in Indonesia for four years in the 1960s with his mother and Indonesian stepfather.

The young Obama, who once studied and played in this neighborhood, was known to many then as "Barry."

"We imagined Barry, and we thought the story would be inspirational to all Indonesian children that when you dream big, they can come true," said Ron Mullers, chairman of the nonprofit group Friends of Obama.

Mullers, a Hawaii native and long-time resident of Indonesia adds, "We thought wouldn't it be great to have a statue of him here as a child, not as president, but as a child, as an inspiration to the Indonesian people."

It was shown to the public Wednesday in a colorful ceremony where children from nearby schools played music and performed a traditional dance.

After the unveiling, a group of grade school students eagerly awaited their chance to have photos taken in front of Obama's statue.

The bronze statue cost about $10,000 and was paid for by eight Indonesian patrons, a private television station and a charity that helps the urban poor.

It is in a park near one of the Indonesian schools Obama attended as a child. "I'm proud because he used to study in Indonesia, and now he's the 44th president of America," said Hendrawan, a sixth-grader who wants to be a lawyer.

No idea what story or message you're talking about or where you got that he "inspired the world"......but it's irrelevant. You're supposed to get it for actually doing something - in this case, I presume something that significantly contributed to "peace on Earth" (so to speak). My point is he has done no such thing.

And for not being Bush. :)
Well then there are about oh 5-6 billion people out there who should be getting a Nobel prize, since they aren't Bush.

PS: I know a lot of people are nowdays politically very "polar" ie at one extreme end or the other; I am not (in fact find it idiotic). I'm far from Bush's biggest fan or Obama's biggest critic. I just think he's so far shown to be nothing but flash and glitter, ie all form and no substance, although hope that he proves me wrong in the coming year or 3. This is the latest example: he gets what is (or used to be) a very highly respected award......for nothing.

Next time the Nobel committee will be certain to check with you before giving any awards. Perhaps you shouldn't dwell too much though, that only causes personal issues.

I'm not sure if you're a troll or simply weak-minded, but it really doesn't matter; you've eliminated any lingering doubts I had either way, and so confirmed that trying to engage you in an intelligent conversation is a waste of time.
