The announcement of his decision to take an indefinite break from golf will have a big knock on effect i reckon.
After the 10th woman came forward i think some counselling is called for, he is obviously ill in some way. As for the tarts coming out of the woodwork, well they aren't worth talking about.
Golf viewing figures will almost definitely drop, a lot of money is going to be lost.
Sky must be really pissed.

He's a young guy in a candy store with lots of money to spend, what does anyone expect from him? His hormones are raging and his world is game playing. I'm not condoning anything, but seriously, so what!

Heres an idea. In the future if the ticket to an event does not have a money back guarantee for any and all moral behavior past, present and future of the participants of the show, don't buy a ticket. Let the market work as it should. If enough people boycott a sporting event or any other show based on that, then perhaps behaviors will change. Either that will happen or the quality of competition will lessen. Want to bet which one people would sacrifice first?
I say that until those guarantees are on tickets, everyone who wants to be self righteous about these behaviors should cease this entertainment. Force those hero's of ours to put up and grow up or go poor. We have a right to demand top self moral behavior, don't we?

And surely that 'top self moral behaviour' should begin with those we choose to lead us! So what about our MP's, Presidents and Politicians? :sneaky:
My personal view is that if someone is good at their job then what does it matter what their skin colour or religion is, or whom they have sex with, as long as they're all consenting adults and their job isn't affected.

So what !!!! What somebody does in their private life is of no concern to anybody other than the person's immediate family, certainly his wife ! I cannot condone his behaviour, and I feel very sorry for his wife. What a pratt this man is. Just couldn't keep zipped up. Shows a great weakness of character. I expect this publicity has done Tiger Woods a lot of harm, no wonder he is retreating from professional golf for an unspecified time. Maybe it will give him time to think about growing up ! He is no longer a randy teenager!
I'm not sure whether he has any children, but if he has, then they as well as his poor wife, will be the ones to suffer most in all this. How selfish some men are, oh and I dare say there are some selfish women out there too.

As others have said, "so what"!!! When you come down to really think about it, it's the damn meida that's making a media circus out of all of this for their own profit! Nothing more! He's not a "mass murderer", just a lover, infact, he treated the women "first class", giving many of them lavish trips, fine dining, gambling jaunts, etc..
He never harmed or killed any of them, to rate such overblown publicity!
Yes, to many, he is morally wrong, but that's just their opinion, it's his wife business, and no one elses! If it were up to me, I'd fire the Entertainment Tonight staff, & Extra's staff, & all the other's for blowing it out of portion! Just to spew out what ever most devious thought they could think of and ask it in the form of a question, just for ratings!!!

NEW YORK -A major sponsor of Tiger Woods will phase the world's most valuable athlete out of its advertisements while he takes time off to repair his personal life.
"As Tiger takes a break from the public eye, we will support his desire for privacy by limiting his role in our marketing programs," Gillette said Saturday.
The announcement by the Procter & Gamble division marks the first major sponsor of the superstar athlete and corporate pitchman to distance itself from Woods.
The news comes a day after Woods announced an indefinite leave from golf and public life to repair his marriage. Woods has been embroiled in a public scandal for two weeks since a car accident exposed Woods' alleged marital infidelity.
Woods is the pitchman for brands ranging from AT&T to Accenture to Nike. His array of endorsements helped him become the first sports star to earn $1 billion.
Nike, which built its $650 million golf business around Woods, said late Friday it supports his decision. AT&T said it is evaluating its relationship with Woods.
Woods will be phased out from Gillette's television and print advertising, and from public appearances and other efforts linking the two entities together, Gillette spokesman Damon Jones said.
"This is supporting his desire to step out of the public eye and we're going to support him by helping him to take a lower profile," he said.

You don't have a point, or the point you attempt to make is less important than whether Tiger plays or whether people talk about him playing.
Being concerned that gossip is an obsession, could be seen as an obsession.
Surely you mean surely......nobody wants surly views ?
And finally remember we are here to fill a few moments of time, unlike Mr Woods who's hitting a golf ball better than his peers gives much enjoyment and employment to many, advancing civilisation's leisure time choices, and providing yet another trivial topic to banter about here.

"1,000,000 lovers"? Is that physically possible? It boggles the mind! Let's see, if he was 40 when he made the statement and 30, (generously speaking) of those years can figure into the equation, and 30yrs. X 365 days = 10,950. I'm coming up short here. Gotta figure 8 1/4 a day. Maybe Wilt's nickname should have been "Magic." Or maybe he didn't mean it literally.

Two wrongs don't make a right and were either of those men married at the time? Worse yet, Tiger set himself up as a "squeeky-clean, all-American" role model. That makes his behavior especially heinous. I'm going to say that I'm the expert in this thread on tiger's impact on our children because I hear exactly what the young adults are saying about this at school and it's not pretty.
He's a young guy in a candy store with lots of money to spend, what does anyone expect from him?
Responsible, moral adult behavior. The exact same thing we expect out of ourselves and our children.
You expect that out of yourself, right Ahso? Why would you expect something else from Tiger? He's better than you? The boundries of decent behavior don't apply to him somehow because he's a celebrity?!! Not bloody likely!
His hormones are raging and his world is game playing. I'm not condoning anything, but seriously, so what!
That's a cop-out. So what you ask? Here's so what: thousands of young boys who idolized him have now gotten this message, "It's OK to cheat on your spouse, disrespect your marriage, and damage your children as long as you make lots of money." What kind of a messed-up message is that to give to children?!!
I am, quite frankly, amazed at people who espouse all day long that "family values" are missing from America and that's the reason we are in decline, then react with a "so what" when something like this happens.
How do they think those values eroded? It's attitudes and behavior like Tiger's that caused did it!!

Thanks Barman. I guess I got worked up a little since I'm in the exact same place as Tiger, a role-model by default. I have seen very clearly during the last eighteen years how young people watch adults with a magnifying glass, mimicking and emulating every single thing they see... both good and bad.
I have to really be on my toes at school to make sure that I am a positive role model. (and The Good Lord Above knows how few of those the children I work with have in their lives!) I can't have "bad days," "moral slips," or act unprofessionally at any time, even when I'm out in the community. Not even any bad language or profanity.
It takes a lot of work and conscious effort, but I understand the deadly seriousness of the responsibility and I have little pity for anyone who doesn't.

It takes a lot of work and conscious effort, but I understand the deadly seriousness of the responsibility and I have little pity for anyone who doesn't.
Tiger Woods, what next.
Saint_;1272712 wrote: Two wrongs don't make a right and were either of those men married at the time? Worse yet, Tiger set himself up as a "squeeky-clean, all-American" role model. That makes his behavior especially heinous. I'm going to say that I'm the expert in this thread on tiger's impact on our children because I hear exactly what the young adults are saying about this at school and it's not pretty.
Perhaps the message is to stop teaching children to idolize young sports people.
Whats striking here is that people become sanctimonious because they have been proven wrong about those they prop up on pedestals. Stop propping them up.
So, let me ask you a question: Do you do a through background check on each spots figure you tell these children to worship? If not, aren't you negligent? Tiger Woods did and said what he did, but you believed him flat out without so much as asking him to submit to any lie detector tests, background checks or psychological profile workup.
Why don't people just organize and boycott the sport until the participants agree to a money back guarantee for all past, present and future behavior? this way you have a way to recoup all that money they made off society. All you have to do is save your ticket stub or record the event on your tivo for proof that you did actually watch the event with the understanding that the participant would never do anything immoral. Theres your solution! Just think of all the money you could be refunded from every golf game, football, baseball, hockey and so on.

No one "teaches" children to have heroes, they do that automatically because everyone has dreams.

Did you just say, 'Stop having heroes?" Give up on the idea that people can be kind, positive leaders? What kind of a world would we have then? It's a good thing to have positive role models and to want to live your own life in a positive way! Come clean, Ahso!, who did you think was "cool" when you were young? You know there was someone! Why would you deny that to everyone else?
BTW... I resent the use of the word, "sanctimonious" meaning "excessively or hypocritically pious." I do not think expecting role models to behave responsibly is "excessive," nor am I "hypocritical" about that behavior. I do not and never have cheated myself. I expect the same out of other adults and that's for good reason.

Yeah, I expected an adult role-model to act in a decent, responsible way. Well, forgive my innocence, but I was taught that's how all adults are supposed to act. To suggest that we even have to do "background checks" on our heroes is an insult to the very fabric of our society.

I know you are being sarcastic, but I'm agreeing with you! People who can't act responsibly should not enjoy the spoils of their sport. Tiger should be banned from golf.
I've pointed to very specific reasons why this is wrong, dangerous, and destructive behavior. Adultery has painful consequences, affecting the adulterers physically, emotionally and spiritually. Adultery usually leads to divorce, hurting everyone connected to the offenders, including grown children. As a matter of fact, It is the number one reason for divorce. Results include illegitimate births and abortions. Other physical damage from adultery includes life-threatening sexually transmitted diseases like Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS) and the Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) The emotional scars of guilt, fear and anxiety can devastate everyone affected by adultery. Participants suffer, losing their self-esteem as personalities are shattered and depression sets in. If not treated, the emotional effects can lead to an early death.
Now... I've noticed that you keep condoning this kind of behavior, (even when you say you don't) and I've got to ask .... why?
Why, specifically, do you defend this kind of behavior?

Why would you make such a statement? There are many sports figures who conduct their lives professionally and with the utmost character daily. We as adults have to give them correct guidance when one falls from grace as Tiger has.
Yes these sports figures need guidance as well. It is fame, and fortunately usually at a pace that more mature adults couldn't handle. Doesn't diminish what Tiger has done, Tiger has no one to blame but himself. I hope he get the guidance he should have received long ago.
Example my Niece plays for the US Womens National Soccer Team they are constantly attending classes on behavior, how to react in certain situation, manners, how to address the press and the effect they have on the youth who look up to them.

You understood me correctly 100% except for the end. I wasn't being sarcastic at all, but claiming I must be is a way to not follow through. When it comes to sports or morality, sports always ends up on top. It's a pity really.

Hey, coincidentally, I am grading papers this morning and my Night School students wrote an essay on December 7th (the anniversary of Pearl Harbor, we were talking about heroes and role models) so here's a few quotes from the young people themselves, about role models...
"Finally, knowing he practiced a lot to get what he wants, inspires me to keep following my dream."
"I studied him more to find out exactly who he was..."
"Their behavior is really respectful to women and his elders..."
"A role model is someone who does something good and you just wanna be like them."
"She pretty much carries all my weight for me, I'd be lost without her."
"My role model taught me right from wrong, got me through the good and bad times."
"My role models affect how I act. They make me who I am."
Starting to see why I take this Tiger Woods thing so seriously?

I agree somewhat. Fans should feel disappointed maybe betrayed isn't the correct term Tiger lead us to believe he was something that he wasn't and went about it with deceit in a grand fashion. For that he will have the rest of his life to deal with and repair. Your character and integrity should be first and foremost in all endeavors in life once you forget that you will most likely regret it. I'm sure Tiger has many regrets right now and rightfully so.

Maybe so, maybe so I can honestly say Tiger is one of biggest reasons I have any interest in the game of Golf besides Phil Mickelson. He has made the game exciting for all to watch he will be missed at the "Buick Invitational" here at Torrey Pines next month he is something else to watch up close on the course.

He always seemed so happy, so full of life, so confident, so sweet.
he's now betrayed his fans, family, sponsors, everyone that ever knew him.
It's interesting some people get so absorbed into the life of a complete stranger....Too bad!

Life is just to short for drama.

he cares about his corporate sponsors now, he's lost them.
His fans had a huge success on his career.

You bought the Tiger Woods myth simply because hes young, black, good looking and a sports enthusiast and you were wrong and now you have buyers remorse. You're pissed, give it time and you'll recover.
I never saw this myth everyone harps on about now. This kid never claimed to be a saint, did he? He never invited us into his personal life, at least not that I saw.
Isn't there something in the bible about having false gods? So far as I'm concerned, this kid was never an advertisement for anything more then working hard at something you love to become the best at it.
He's certainly not Jon and Kate who invited the world to step in and watch their personal life.
