Just thought Americans might want to know

Post by fuzzywuzzy »

Obama is coming here for a holiday with the Mrs and kids.

Get this for diplomacy eh?

The US ambassador to Australia says he cannot reveal whether US President Barack Obama will visit Darwin or Uluru during his visit to Australia next month.

On his first visit to Darwin, ambassador Jeff Bleich remained tight-lipped on whether the Obama family will visit the Northern Territory.

"I could tell you, but then I'd have to kill you," he told the ABC. "That would end the interview too early."

He says the US will consider importing Australian uranium now that Mr Obama is pushing for more nuclear power stations to be built.

"We like buying everything from wines to boots and hats and all the stuff my wife is buying right now here in Darwin right from Australians," he said.

"So I'm sure we're going to consider your market seriously."

But Mr Bleich says the US will not give Australia advice on whether it should pursue its own nuclear power.

UH HAHA HA HAHAHHAHHA ....not ....You're a diplamat, don't make stupid comments about killing us!!! What a doofus!! Uluru? don't you guys have big rocks in your country he can look at and ponder his feet? I hope he doesn't try to climb it......actually I take that back go on Mr Obama do it!!! I dare ya!!! hee hee heheheheheeee (smirk)

Aussie winemaker rattled by donation backlash

By Kathleen Dyett

Posted 8 minutes ago

A major Australian wine exporter facing a backlash in the United States for donating to a key animal rights group says it will take its support elsewhere in the future.

The $100,000 donation by Yellow Tail Wines to the Humane Society of the United States' (HSUS) animal rescue program has prompted a flurry of angry online postings in the US calling for people to boycott the wine.

The HSUS describes itself as the United States' largest and most effective animal protection organisation and it sponsors workshops that teach people how to lobby for animal protection laws.

In response to the donation, a page called Yellow Fail has been set up on the Facebook social networking site and has attracted more than 3,000 fans.

A rancher from South Dakota has posted an online video of himself pouring the wine onto the snow in front of his cattle and urging others to do the same.

The issue has also prompted an article in the New York Post newspaper and comments in various US blogs.

Yellow Tail, owned by the Casella Wines company based at Yenda in the New South Wales Riverina, says it is the first time it has given money to the HSUS.

In a statement to ABC News, the managing director of Casella Wines, John Casella, says the company will look to non-political groups in the future.

"Yellow Tail is committed to the plight of animals in need and as a result, we can confirm that through any future activity, we will be looking to other non-profit organisations without lobbying interests that best deliver on our intended outcome of saving animals," the statement said.

Mr Casella says he never anticipated any negative criticism of the donation and the intention of the partnership with the HSUS was to celebrate and save animals.

"Being farmers ourselves, we acknowledge those who care for their land and their environment, just as we do," he said.

"We are proud of our rural heritage and value a solid relationship with agricultural communities around the world."

The HSUS says the partnership is about celebrating animals and the money will support the organisation's rescue team, which saves animals from natural disasters or cruelty.

This makes no sense. I doubt anyone here that lives in the US has heard a single word about this. Probably another media driven hoopla.

Pretty good reason for the backlash, for donating to an organization that does not fund local shelters.

Yellow Tail stubs its toe | Drovers.com - Industry News

Among the groups contacting Yellow Tail was Animal Agriculture Alliance, which outlined HSUS $100 million budget, its spending patterns and fund-raising tactics among other things.

“Analysis of their (HSUS) 2008 tax return shows that only one-half of 1 percent of the group’s funds actually went towards caring for animals, the Alliance told Yellow Tail officials. “While wanting to help animals is indeed a noble goal, we urge you to instead pledge your money to local shelters, which often are underfunded, but provide much-needed services to homeless pets. Not to mention that HSUS is not associated with nor does it fund local animal shelters.

What I'm curious about is what is so wrong with HSUS that has so many people up in a huff? Their website seems fine. Is it because they raise awareness of many animal species that have little advocacy?

He's a pawn for the ruling elite. A Wall street agent.

No. The prez never kills anyone directly. That's not his job. Just his army, Secret agents, CIA, FBI, assasins.

He is killing the "buzz" he created when he got elected tho.

Unless Obama makes some serious changes and shakes things up in his cabinet significantly, I'd have to agree with Amythest.

At least the feds are now leaving the pot smokers alone. Not quite good enough though even on that issue. When I see people who have been locked up for marijuana issues released by Obama, then I'll begin to have hope.

Obama coming to Savannah on March 2 to talk about economic plan

By Walter C. JonesStory updated at 10:23 AM on Tuesday, Feb. 16, 2010! ATLANTA — President Obama will be in Savannah to stump for his economic program March 2, the next stop on his White House to Main Street Tour, according to a White House official.

The daylong visit represents the president’s third stop on the tour that began in Allentown, Penn., on Dec. 4 and stopped last in Cleveland late last month. Both trips wound between small businesses and a town hall meeting.

The goal of the tour is to give ordinary people a chance to describe their economic challenges, according to the White House official. It also provides him an opportunity to deliver his message directly about the efforts he’s made to shore up the economy. No specific policy announcements are expected in Savannah, the official said.

Savannah has fared better during the recent economy than many other parts of the Southeast. It is home to the fastest-growing port in the nation, and its 8.4 percent unemployment rate is significantly below the national level of 10.0 percent.

Obama will certainly want to trumpet the impact of his stimulus program. However, the largest government contract has begun to bear fruit. The federal government is slated to pay two-thirds of the $550 million to deepen the harbor in preparation for larger cargo ships.

The area will also be getting a large injection of cash from the state. A $128 million project to complete the next phase of the Truman Parkway was just awarded it in December. Also, Gov. Sonny Perdue has targeted Savannah for his largest construction projects in next year’s budget, $68 million toward the state’s share of the deepening, and another $121 million to upgrade roads leading to the state port in Garden City.

Perdue’s spokesman Bert Brantley said the governor hadn’t learned of Obama’s visit. Although Perdue, as the former chairman of the Republican Governors Association, has lobbied against Obama’s health care proposal, Brantley said he supports a federal grant to states that compete for student improvement called Race to the Top.

So there. :D

Boy I wish he would stay home and salvage our country. He is either in a airplane going to a foreign country or on television trying to sell something. Let his children get their education from school like the rest of us poor citizens. Yeah I voted for him. Bought his whole kit and kaboodle. Could not buy another four years of Bush country. Cheney could not be found when he was vice president and now he has his mouth yapping all over the place about the demos. I am beginning to think the only terrorist that America should fear are the elected ones in Washington D.C. I guess I had better go to bed I'm getting grouchy.:lips::lips:

Actually, lets see there's the building of the outside chook run, the building of the fencing for the pig pen, the boys cricket. an engagement party, 2000 pages of study notes I've had to read through, the oil change and tinker with the 4x4, retrieving the last of my belongings from the house I'm selling.......etc etc etc. all in two days.

I do have a life you know.!!!!

I AM american, and I really dont care to know you, thanks. I find your post offensive and baiting no matter your protests. Argue all you like. Perhaps a little explanation is due. I have reached the end of my rope as far as American baiting is concerned. I have to deal with it alot, living and working in a place that is hostile to everyone that is not British. Yes I have been under alot of stress, and no I am not taking it out on you. As far as higher education is concerned, I have had to put up with all manner of put downs and outright insults by tutors. I've been called arrogant and marked down just by virtue of being American. A Scot actually had a snarky comment about the american accent of a virtual textbook they were using, not knowing an American was in the classroom. Mind you, she did apologise profusely when a 'gee, thanks' came from the back of the room, and all my classmates laughed of course, but if it was you, would you think it was so funny?

As for the humane society, I would rather have donations to them, than the a$$holes who go around picking off kangaroo's because they consider them vermin?

The point is, I am bloody well sick of being baited because I am American! Enough is enough. So bloody what? I have more English in my little finger, than most people who hold a british passport!
