Is Chef Ramsey Britain's greatest export after Simon Cowell? We LOVE the guy! The new season is pretty good, last night one of the chef's wussed out and walked off the show already!

"Hell Kitchen" is heaven for people who like both cooking shows and reality TV! Do you watch it?:D

Yes, Saint, I've watched quite a few of the older US ones...they're good.

Gordon Ramsay?

Good Lord! Over here he was known for his swearing. Is he still the same?

I'm not really in a position to comment on his culinary abilities. I was just startled because I have the impression that Americans seem to take swearing rather more seriously than we do.

Had this sort of picture of families across several states freezing in horror as Gordon went off on a rant...:wah:

It's a good show - take nobodies and make them into a good cook (not a Chef, really) kinda reminds me of basic training....tear'm down only to build them back up. I like one of Ramsey's other BBC shows "the F word" he's a bit more likable, but I think it's all the show. As for a cooking comp, I rather watch Top Chef. Real Chefs, real dishes.

Is it me or is it a requirement to smoke on that show? This season they are even smoking indoors.

Its sad that people enjoy sitting in front of the wall (television screen) watching others being belittled and bullied. I suppose bullies would be expected to enjoy watching though. Is it a highly rated show?

I tried watching that show a couple of times.

Having been a chef, I understand the pressures of a working kitchen pretty well.

This guy annoys me. He reminds me of a chef I worked for during my apprenticeship. I am sure that I would smack him with a saute' pan before I got through the first day of filming.

I am curious what the actual pay-off is for those that get through the series. These folks take a lot of crap from the guy, just to be on TV?

I guess that by the time he is done with them, they are sure whether they really want to be in the restaurant business or not, though.

It does surprise me though that he has not been assaulted, even Jerry Springer has had a broken nose and a black eye. If someone talked to me like that in my twenties, I'd be in jail.

Some young fellow almost did in a previous season, I hear.

Though this guy is a scrapper. He didn't seem terribly unwilling to go to the floor.

The guy finally backed down and left the show.

I was looking into this, a bit.

The folks on the show are wanting to be in the business, and they sign up for the abuse. If they make it to the end, the publicity alone could make them a lot of business.

It could be worth a year's hard work.

Yes, Gordon is a bully. And personally, I don't like that at all. But, like a car accident, I seem to have to look. Also, you're quite right about the swearing. Americans do take that more seriously than Brits. But does that make us more pompous...or classy?

Just a cultural difference, I would say. Neither more classy nor more pompous.

(I should point out that Gordon is regarded as exceptionally foul-mouthed even by Brit standards.)

How about classy pompousness or pompous classiness?

I think we're inventing a new word: Americans are much more clompous than Brits? And Brits are less pomlassy than Yanks...:sneaky::wah:

I do like some of the reality shows like.......Top Chef, Houswives of New York, Big Brother, Amazing Race, American Idol, etc.

But, I do not like Gordon Ramsey at all. I find him to be a very, unpleasant man who belittles the contestants. He's harmful, not helpful....imo....
