I received a message on FB a few days ago from a old friend of mine..

Havn't talked to her since.. well i can't remember..

Anywho when we both lived in villages only about 3km apart, both went to the same primary school.. my friend had quite a strict upbringing..

For instance:

I had my ears pierced when i was about 6 years old.. She was never aloud to pierce her ears untill she left home!

They were the type of "grow your own fruit and veg" people.. (by the way nothing wrong with that :P)

anyway i click about on FB (and hyves, "dutch kinda facebook")

and i see these people (= people my age) living like (sorry but) typical students.. Drinking and partying like there's no tomorrow, barely wearing even knickers! ( saw a pic of "my old friend" wearing a silky cop suit and a wip! hahaha :wah: Would only go into the bedroom wearing something like that :wah:)

Don't get me wrong; i like going down to the Irish pub sometimes or drinking a beer or a glass of wine at home.. and i was raised in a very free household, talk about anything etc etc.

I tend to lose touch with a lot of friends (that i once upon a time met at school or whatever) because i have nothing in common with them anymore.. i don't feel the need to flash my bits and get drunk in front of a bunch of "strange" people..

Maybe i'm just a sad "old" person, who goes down to the irish pub sometimes with her dad and does weekly shopping with her mum and only has 1 best friend.. but i'm happy with that and i don't see why young people my age need to get pissed out of their heads every night to have some fun! :-2

Your not old, I've never understood why some have to get pi**ed out of their minds to have fun.

Which would, after a fashion, fix the problem you raise in the opening post, though it might instigate fresh queries on your return.

Well Amy,

I have fallen out of many a bar and club In my teens and early 20's so drunk that I often had to be carried home by friends. I lost hours of my life that to this day, I can not re-collect.

I married very young In my teens and the ex husband was a boozer so the pub was the place to be followed by a night-club.

Every friday, saturday and sunday night my pals and I would hit the clubs In Brighton.

I do not know at what point It came but I realised I was not actually enjoying myself. I loved to dance so enjoyed the dancing side of It but then I would look at how Idiotic my mates got after a few sherbets.

My parents lived In a small village In West Sussex where every-one knew every-one and I found that I actually prefered to slip away with my Father to the village boozer so he could have his pint. There, we would sit and TALK.... how I miss those moments with my Father ???

From around the age of 25 years old, I never touched alcohol and I actually do not like being around drunken morons.

I have a bottle of Bailey's and red wine at Christmas and that is It.

You keep doing what you are doing girl :)

My partner (thank god ) really likes my dad, he doesn't really understand why i like chatting with my dad at the pub over a pint, but he likes that we have such a good relationship..

Like i said all of my family lives in england (one brother and sister inlaw + their baby :) live in ireland) so i don't get to see alot of them.. it shows sometimes, my second uncle commited suicide last year (third one in my family :-2) and then you feel really far away..

So in a weird way it makes my relationship with my parents really strong and i can talk to them about anything.. So i don't feel the need, going out and getting smashed with so called friends that actually aren't really your friends, it you catch my drift... I catch your drift :wah:

Make sure you cherish every moment of those pub times with your Dad. They will become a comfort to you when he leaves you one day.

My Father was very well known In the village because he was the local business man and President of the cricket club so as a teenager I could not get up to any-thing without getting shopped to my Father from the locals.

I used to love the way every-one called him Mr ***** and not his Christian name...and my father could make a pint last 2 hours :wah:

Its obviously passed by now but we talked about it a few weeks ago (in the pub of course :wah:) And he was really still upset for doing that years ago.. i didn't know he still felt so upset about that...

It is really nice being able to talk things through with your dad (or mum) over a pint, and look back .. I do think alot of people of any age don't have this sort of thing with their parents and i can only say they are missing out.. my mum and dad will always be the most important people in my life and the best friends i will ever have..
My Father and I fell out all the time but we never got to blows. although I am sure he felt like landing one on me many times.
