Berated by a humming bird!
Out front in a border I have several fairly large clumps of pineapple
sage... some of it is blooming now, these really delicate really pretty
red flowers. I was out there puttering around and decided I'd like to
pick some for the house. Well, this hummingbird flew up and practically
called me a THIEF to my face! He was really ticked I was absconding
with HIS flowers. There must be quite a lot of nectar in them, I guess.
He vibed me so bad I only cut 3 of them!!

MOTTO TO LIVE BY:
"Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, chocolate in one hand, champagne in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming.
WOO HOO!!, what a ride!!!"

How cool they came up to you, they must be so much fun to watch. They are such beautiful wonders.

I absolutely adore humming birds. One time, our electric was out 3 days because of a microburst. The kids and I spent hours on the porch watching the hummingbirds. :-6

Hummingbirds are found only in the Americas. Of the 338 species, only three are found east of the Mississippi. They all winter in Mexico or Central America. They are BIG eaters. No animal on earth has a faster metabolism-roughly 100 times that of an elephant. Hummingbirds burn food so fast they often eat 1.5 to 3 times their body weight in food per day! In order to gather enough nectar, hummingbirds must visit hundreds of flowers every day. Just one day of cold temperatures or bad luck finding flowers can mean death. Do not intimidate them or pick flowers while they are watching. Puttering around in your yard is discouraged as well.

That is interesting, only 3 east of the mississippi, wow how cool, and in actual fact they come this far north and go further west to the coast and island. Amazing little critters I bet many die up here as we get cold snaps and they may not get away in time.

Hummingbirds have a unique way of keeping warm or conserving their energy - at night, or any time they cannot get enough food to fuel themselves - they go into torpor - a state in which their metabolic rate is only one-fifteenth that of normal sleep. They use this method to live through cool nights.

And nobody gets hurt!
Jb thanks for the lesson but I did know that already and have very good
relationship with my hummers, and I'm not about to give up my
puttering. You don't know it but you are talking to a person who when
she sees California quail on her morning walks, approaches VERY slowly
so they don't burn too many calories.

I can really appreciate your frustration there. I'm sure some people set out in life to make a profession out of being dumb asses. Worse, they have a dumb ass answer for everything.
