Anyone know of good war games for PC?

I'm trying to buy my buddy a birthday present and he's very hard to shop for. Anyone know some good war games? I know he already has a lot of the popular ones, I'm looking for something either obscure and good or new and good.

Thanks for the welcome! And thanks for the suggestion, I think he already has Half-Life though..... I think I might get into that soon, though, it looks like something I might like.

My buddy is into the RTS type war game, his favorite is C&C:Generals... I don't know enough about this genre to know what's good. Definitely appreciate suggestions!

Warcraft might be something to consider.. HL2 is a FPS.. along the lines of Doom. Call of Duty is another good one to look at...

I checked all those against what he has.... he has 'em all!!! This is hard. :-5

I did a search for games like C&C:Generals and I found a new RTS game called Act of War. http://gamesdomain.yahoo.com/pc/act_of_ ... view/59356

Does anyone know anything about it? I think there's a demo out, but I don't have a gamespot membership...
