The little feller is an unofficial greeter at a Campgroud in Florida. He is really cute and appears every now and then when campers enter the grounds. I happened to take this picture last summer. He needs some dialogue. Thanks. :)

Abbey, It is interesting about you asking, when I was last in Florida the first thing I saw was a dead Armadillo by the road, I was stunned and mentioned it to she who must be obeyed who promptly laughed her arse off, I tried to explain that this creature would be very "Exotic" to me, whithin a couple of hours I had seem possums and racoons (all of which she tells me are deadly).

Some time later we were heading down to Cape Kennedy and I was informed that the waterways either side of the road were infested with alligators, in fact there were signs telling people not to go into the bush because of poisonous snakes!!

Believe me Abbey Florida is a very dangerous place and I have not even mentioned the people yet!!! These include Walmartus Giganticus, which sheds its skin in March and takes on a spandex type texture except the skin never seems to fit :D

ps I am now running for cover!!

Carla, how about joining me in inviting the dapper Bothwell to the southwest. Since this aristocratic Brit seems intent on stealing one of our national treasures, he deserves to meet the varied fauna from her native land. I'm thinking our various rattlesnakes, Gila Monster's, scorpians, tarantulla's, Killer bees, Brown recluse, and especially Black widow spiders - are all part of spandex lady's heritage. :-3

DERWULF,

We will introduce him to the monsters of the west 1 and at a time..Tomorrow with be the cuddly TRANTULLA ..!! ;)

Description

The Gila Monster is a stout-bodied lizard that grows 18 to 24 inches in length. It has black, orange, pink or yellow broken blotches, bars and spots, with bands extending onto its blunt tail. Its face is black, and it has small, bead-like scales across its back. It is named for the Gila River Basin of the southwestern United States.

The Gila Monster is one of only two species of venomous lizards; both are of the family Helodermatidae and both are similar in appearance and habits. Its venomous cousin, the Mexican Beaded Lizard (Heloderma horridum), is slightly larger and darker.

Most of the Gila Monster's teeth have two grooves that conduct the venom, a nerve toxin, from glands in the lower jaw. The toxin is not injected like that of the snake, but flows into the wound as the lizard chews on its victim. While the bite can overpower predators and prey, it is rarely fatal to humans.

He's secretly talking to the pelican getting the scoop(heh-heh) on how to make the alligators bend to his will. He's Scottish, hence, cheap and is demanding to know how to make the gators swim :) over at their expense. Don't let him fool ya.

Nah, we're trying to make him feel at home, and meet the extended family.

BTW: Is it true that you met him while responding to a call about " a dude in a plaid mini skirt, suffering from heat exhaustion, speaking funny English, and trying to cool his hoo-haas along side a Florida interstate?"

Black Widows !!!! in the house :-3 Jives surely not

Carla, thanks for the pic of the Tarantula, however as an arachnaphobe I turn into what the Governor of your fair state would call a "Girly Man" at the sight of one. I can assure you that a glimpse of a Tarantula would require me to be re-trousered very rapidly.

Brown recluse ?? I just hope the B******S are so reclusive they never come out.

Now what is this are you naughty North Americans trying to keep me away, if so it would work except not coming over there would anger a far more dangerous predator, Coppus Floridus, highly aggressive, acts a lot like the female arachnid, possesive of territory especially the AC.

Anyway we have our fair share of predators here, Wasps, Adders (last death a 90 year old in 1896 or something like that) err that's it, OK USA you win.

BOTHWELL,

:wah: I wouldn't want you to turn into a "GIRLY MAN". I'm not much of a spider lover myself..

Here is one of San Diego's own critters. I grew up with these guys. Had them as pets. They spit blood out the corners of their eyes..!! Kind of PREHISTORIC looking aren't they.. WE CALL THEM A HORNY TOAD, NOW ON THE ENDANGERED SPECIES LIST .. ;) ;)

Don't worry about it Bothwell because there are plenty of places that you can go to that will help you get over your aversions. Of course being America it is not cheap for these self-help courses but if you take enough you' ll be able walk with them critters around you and not care because you are wearing your Wellies and are hanging up your clothes.

You'll be able to let the tarantulas walk all over your mail gloves and life will be OK. Oh? Yeah! Don't forget to shake out the Wellies before you put them on your feet.

Aren't there electric eels and sharks around there?

awww.. is that a hedgehog? cute little candidate for roadkill . he is adorable. but Bothwell is a cruel man, he advocates the murder of pandas and wants to know recipes for dolphins, he is a true bloody Brit descendant of Edward "longshanks". (i'm lying, he has a tender heart).
