pedophiles dreams...makes me sick. i don't want to hear that the children love the competitions...it's an ego trip for the parents.

If anything, it would be regarded as a little tame by parents whose determination to make their daughters glamorous hasn't been affected in the least by the unsolved case of the murdered queen.
Do these parents learn nothing? There are sick people out there who get off on this sort of thing, we should be protecting our children not pushing them into becoming little mini adults, it makes me angry to see that poor little girl with a plastered on smile being pushed this way and that by her mother, by the competition organisers and whoever else! She is a little girl, let her enjoy her childhood before she has to go out into this big scary world and face reality:mad:

Great topic, Bill.
It's not about JonBenet. These things were sick before she came along. I've seen these weird mothers and sometimes fathers and their intentions are not right. Why does a child need to be judged in a swimsuit?! What's that about?? Somebody really thinks that's a good idea? Most of these pageants stem from the South where traditionally, women who are very "ladylike' and beautiful are regarded highly so girls are still groomed for this. But these pageants are bizarre. I don't buy that parents just do it for their kids, not for a minute. There is some weird vicariousness involved. Little girls generally like to play "dress-up" but this is too much. Why don't they take off the makeup and the sequins and plastic teeth and dress them like regular kids and then see who's the prettiest? Or even better, have a contest for the smartest, or most talented. These pageants do nothing but create little princesses and I think that's disgusting. I would rather see girls be encouraged to be intelligent, than have them gauged on their looks. No wonder adult women can't get a break! Why aren't we having more science contests and spelling bees and math contests? That's what should matter, not teaching these little girls that their beauty is what will make people like them and that beauty is what it's all about.

Totally agree with everyone else.
I would rather my daughter be judged on how she treats other people or how she is doing at school than on how she looks in a swimsuit but the reality is that I would rather she wasn't judged at all.
All children are gorgeous to their family no matter how 'odd' or different we may think they are. And what about a little girl who has downs or a large facial birthmark - they are equally lovely but I bet they wouldn't be allowed on stage.
I would be mortified if I thought my daughter could be some pervs wet dream because I was vain enough to put her in that position.
Sorry, rant over but these things really bug me.

Parents complain about wanting to know exactly where these pedophiles live and wanting their children to be protected against them but by entering them into such contests are they not putting their children at that very risk?
I babysit occasionally for a little 7 year old girl and I can't imagine her in a situation like this and she shouldn't have to, the parents need to let their children be children, I know I have said this before but its like selling provocative underwear and makeup for kids, just wrong!
