OK, I thought of this one just now, as I was emptying my PM folder..because there were 13 messages in it. Do you have any superstitions or rituals you follow, even though they seem rather silly? I mean, will I have bad luck if I have 13 messages in my PM box? Probably not. But every time I hit 13..there I go, emptying it.

I say I'm not superstitious, but I don't push my luck. I MUST have pork and sauerkraut on New Years. It's bad luck not to. If I spill salt, over the shoulder it goes. I won't walk under a ladder. No, I'm not superstitious. :wah:

The poolhall's a great equalizer. In the poolhall, nobody cares how old you are, how young you are, what color your skin is or how much money you've got in your pocket... It's about how you move. I remember this kid once who could move around a pool table like nobody had ever seen. Hour after hour, rack after rack, his shots just went in. The cue was part of his arm and the balls had eyes. And the thing that made him so good was... He thought he could never miss. I know, 'cause that kid was me.

I always wear my seatbelt (especially when I'm in a car).
Seriously, in terms of the more mystical ones, I do count Magpies (like Jenny who is Irish too), I cross myself when a funeral passes, if ever I curse in front of a picture of Jesus I always say sorry to him (its a catholic thing), and I have a lucky one dollar bill in my wallet (we can't spend them here of course cause we have Euros). My lucky number seems to be seven, and I am always luckier in love in the winter than the summer, interesting isn't it?

I have that one from my Nan. If she was on the way to bingo and she saw one she would make the bus driver bring her back.

Wouldn't say I cross myself when a funeral passes, but I always stop out of respect. I actually touch my forehead, so is that crossing myself?

Well, not really, but it is close. We still have a lot of religion in us, even if we don't really believe in it any more if you know what I mean. One of the rituals we do in Ireland, is that at a wake you would kiss the corpse of a loved one, I know that not everyone does that, and some people find it bizarre.

I did get to kiss my dad goodbye when he was waked, and my granny, and I was glad i did, though you kinda would have to be close to someone to do it, its not seemly otherwise. I think its a sensible and touching tradition, though its not for everyone definetly.

Not to continue this train of thought, but I just had to say, I couldn't kiss my dad goodbye because I kept thinking his chest was rising and falling like he was breathing. I guess it was because it was so not-real to see him lying down, looking like he was asleep, with no movement at all so my brain just created that illusion.
I did hold his hand though.
OK, back to the original thread: I think the numbers 3 and 6 are my lucky numbers,
That sounds very weird following the first paragraph.

One of my biggies is that when ever I hear the national anthem I stand and put my hand on my heart, stop what I am doing and sing along too myself.
I also upon seeing a animal dead in the road I ask that god bless this soul and bring peace too it.

When someone dies I inscribe a white candle and bless it and save and bury the leftover wax.
I make a wish when I turn my necklace clasp around.
If I spill salt, I throw some over both shoulders.
I always, always, make wishes on fountains and falling stars.
If I see a loose feather, Pick it up and keep it if it's real pretty but otherwise I wish on it and blow it away.
Like Tater Salad, I always bless a dead animal and ask for it to not remember its suffering.

I'm not superstitious at all. I may not walk under ladders not because it may be bad luck, because something may fall on my head. I have a 13 tatooed on my shoulder. Most of the others mentioned so far I have never even heard of.
I am a creature of habit though. I believe it is one of the greatest powers in the universe. I always wear my seatbelt.(for safety) I always put my wallet and keys in the same place so I always know where they are.( haven't lost them since) Whenever I get out of the car I lock the door after making sure my keys are in my pocket. ( I never lock my keys in the car.)
I don't consider these rituals or superstitions. Just good ideas that I took the time to make into habits. That have saved me a lot of grief in the long run. I have a friend that would lose his wallet at least once a week. Another friend that was just as bad about locking his keys in his car. He did it three times in one day.:wah: I would tell them to make the solution a habit and it becomes automatic, then it won't happen.
I do like the one about blessing a dead animals on the road. I always feel bad whenever I see roadkill. Especially dogs and cats:-1

I don't consider myself to be supersticious at all, I only avoid ladders if someone is up it - don't see any point in stepping into the road to go around it.
But at the same time I touch wood - weird really 'cos I don't believe in good or bad luck, just circumstances (although I still wish people good luck)
So I'm just a bundle of contradictions!
Oh and I live at no 13!

at my mother in law's wake (in Ireland) we all kissed her good bye, it didn't seem strange at all.
my biggest thing is I always watch how I say something because it seems like it's so easy to jinx yourself. :-3

I am very superstitious. I get it from my grandmother and just hearing about them and living them.
If I drop my comb or brush, I tap it with my right foot before picking it up.
I never pick up a "tails up" coin.
I never put my shoes or hat on the bed.
If I say something bad that might come true, I knock three times on wood.
Salt over the shoulder.
If I give someone a wallet or purse, I put money in it.
I never give anyone a knife and if someone gives me a knife as a gift, I give them some money.
If someone hands me an open pocketknife, I never close it before giving it back.
I pick up feathers.
Wish on stars.
If someone touches my chin, I touch my nose.
WOW! I sound like a mental case! It's just habit and not something I think about when I do it. There are others that I do, but too many to write. Geez,. . . is there a doctor in the house? :wah:
