I've often thought that anyone who wanted to lead a country wasn't fit to be a leader.

We usually hear more about what is wrong with candidates than what is right about them. How would you describe the ideal leader?

I think that to be a good president/prime minister, they must be a good sales person. Have the inate ability to sell the citizenry on a particuar course of action that is beneficial to all, but may not be popular. (Swallow the bitter pill, it's good for you). Hopefully, that good leader would not be akin to someone like Adolph Hitler (he was a good salesman/.

I'd think they most certainly need to know the constitution (or other document in whatever country) inside and out, and respect that without fail. Not try to get around it in whatever under-the-table means are necessary. And they need to rule for the people, not against every-single thing the people believe in.

you just got me thinking that it could be fun to have mock elections on FG.

Of course it is a monarchy. The elections would be for prime minister.

Nominations required. A week of campaigning and then election debate/speeches and a vote.

fun?

I wouldn't want it either.

If we did mock elections on FG (no idea what the winner really gets other than a funky sig for a week) it would be interesting to see how the campaigning worked.

A salesperson is too fake- believe me- I work with real estate agents and sales people all the time- the best person to lead a country is someone whos best intentions are the people of the country and not care whether some people thought it right or wrong- he would be willing to "swallow the bitter pill" and be hated by some! Unfortunatly, we will never be able to pick the perfect leader- no matter who or what, no one will be perfect. Sucks!

Unfortunately, some of the best people for the job would never make it pass the committee. Those who drink, have used drugs, had affairs or been arrested. In other words, someone who knows what the rest of us go through.

He/she would have to be middle class with kids in public school, eats fast food on occasion, been late with bills and know what it's like to squeeze a penny.

Definately not someone born with a silver spoon and never know the meaning of a dollar or what it means to save money or use coupons. Not someone who got a new car every birthday, a diamond ring just because or went on vacations to exotic places because that was the place to be.

Someone who doesn't know someone famous or influential. Someone who doesn't think Oprah walks on water and is the goddess of the great giveaways. (Geez, I can't stand that woman!)

In other words, someone normal, average, and OK-Joe/Jane.
When choosing between two evils, I always like to take the one I've never tried before.

I nominate:

Galbally, Far Rider, Bryn Mawr and jimbo

We need a good variety of candidates who will have vastly different campaign strategies.

Do you all accept the nominations?

this thread is good for the candidates to get an idea of what people are looking for in a leader. though you are welcome to be completely silly as well. sometimes that's what people need.

Just look to the late great Adolf Hitler for the answer, Koan. No othre leader in the modern age could have presented themselves with the image of Messiah, yet remain in tune with his people. To turn a wreckd and defeated nation into one of the most powerful and proud countries in the world...work of a true good leader.
