Meeting up with me mates!

Every six months or so a group of us old timers (well, ages range from 49 to over 70) meet up for a chit chat over a drink and a meal. We all met up originally at the same work place, since when some have retired and others moved on to fresh pastures. Now only one of us actually remains with the same employer.

There are six of us. This particular time one was suffering from the after effects of having a tooth out, another had not long become a proud grandfather...................AND we actually had £20 each from the on-going lottery syndicate, the share-out from the last year! Wonders never cease - perhaps the "big one" one day!!

A good time was had by all. Are there any others here who meet up with old friends on a regular basis?

I think that's really nice. So often we lose touch with people when we move on.

I sometimes meet up with some ladies I used to work with,,,,probably once a year....we have a meal and a few glasses of wine - it's good fun to catch up.

I dont now.... but I always did, and I sorely miss it. Years ago, when our children were in nursery school and kindergarten. There were 7 of us. All women. We met once a week for lunch, taking turns at each others homes. As the kids got older, it was once a month on Saturday night. A million laughs, a million tears. Tremendous support for each other. Its a very good thing to do. We too, are now spread out all over the country.

That is such a great thing to do. We all know how easy it is to lose touch over time, so I commend you and your friends, Tariki, for keeping it going. :guitarist

Maybe part of the problem these days (yes, you can tell I'm a bit of an "old timer" by my reference to "these days" as opposed - of course - to "the good old days"!!) is that no one seems to remain in the same place long enough to form any genuine friendships. Even families seem to drift apart, ending up on different sides of the country................if not the world.

Having said that, my own daughter spent a few months in Sri Lanka early last year, working at Colombo Zoo and an elephant sanctuary, and soon there is to be a reunion. (Once there is a drifting apart, what with all the mobile phones and the ease of emails, I suppose it can be easier to keep in touch than in the past)
