WWE Wrestler Family Found Dead

Post by Musiclover89 »

FAYETTEVILLE, Ga. (June 25, 2007) -- WWE wrestler Chris Benoit, his wife, and son were found dead Monday and police said they were investigating the deaths as a murder-suicide.

Detective Bo Turner told television station WAGA that the case was being treated as a murder-suicide, but said that couldn’t be confirmed until evidence was examined by a crime lab.

The station said that investigators believe the 40-year-old Benoit killed his wife, Nancy, and 7-year-old son, Daniel, over the weekend, then himself on Monday. A neighbor called police, and the bodies were found in three rooms.

Lead investigator Lt. Tommy Pope, of the Fayette County Sheriff’s Department, told The Associated Press the deaths were being investigated as homicide, and that the causes of death awaited autopsy results on Tuesday. Pope said the bodies were discovered about 2:30 p.m., but refused to release details.

The house is in a secluded neighborhood set back about 60 yards off a gravel road, surrounded by stacked stone wall and a double-iron gate. On Monday night, the house was dark except for a few outside lights. There was a police car in front, along with two uniformed officers.

Benoit was a former world heavyweight and Intercontinental champion. He also held several tag-team titles during his career.

“WWE extends its sincerest thoughts and prayers to the Benoit family’s relatives and loved ones in this time of tragedy, the federation said in a statement on its Web site.

Benoit was scheduled to perform at the “Vengeance pay-per-view event Sunday night in Houston, but was replaced at the last minute because of what announcer Jim Ross called “personal reasons.

The native of Canada maintained a home in metro Atlanta from the time he wrestled for the defunct World Championship Wrestling.

The WWE canceled its live “Monday Night RAW card in Corpus Christi, Texas, and USA Network aired a three-hour tribute to Benoit in place of the scheduled wrestling telecast.

“My relationship with Chris has extended many years and I consider him a great friend, Carl DeMarco, the president of WWE Canada, said in a statement. “Chris was always first-class — warm, friendly, caring and professional one of the best in our business.

This is so sad, my 11 year old son turned on wrestling to find a tribute to his life, we all sat there in dis-belief and wanted to know "what the HECK happened"????

I only found out this morning that it looks as if he took his own life after taking his wife and 7 year old son??? that doesn't sound right...so unbelievable...:-1 :-1 :-1

I would like to say the WWE needs a good kick in the A S S how can they "honor" a man who (my time anyways) allegedly murdered his wife and son.

Sorry no glory from this former WWF fan.!!!

I don't think they knew last night, minks. They only announced the murder-suicide about 5 hours ago, I think. This is really sad.:-1

Oh but they should have waited for details now they have egg all over their faces. I doubt they will clear that up they may just hope it goes away. I dunno, they acted prematurely. Imagine the family of Chris's wife... how must they feel that this went onto national TV and they made him out to be a freakin hero. Idiots they should never ever ever get that involved until they know facts. I understand Chonsi, it's just typical of WWE to glorify everything. Makes me sick.

Yes, you are right, minks. It was a sympathy play by wrestling, for ratings or whatever. They poor wife's family must be devistated. They should have waited for the police statements to be announced first.

Sick, crazy, nut cases... Real Heros!! More like psychological cripples. This is sickening. I knew a man in New York, who did this same thing around 20 years ago, because he discovered his wife was cheating on him. Awful, and selfish, and controling.

Latest news release describe it as a murder/suicide, toxicology tests will take up to a week before they disclose the means of death for the wife and child.

Otherwise, everything is closed until the next police announcement.

He was trained here under the great Stu Hart, seems it's a bit shocking to the locals as well Angel, as in they can't believe it that he killed anyone. Again this is a case of what we Don't Know isn't it.

Gosh it's been ages since I have watched wrestling. Am so out of the loop.

Perhaps we will never know the full details that is sad the man either dies in shame or glory... likely we will never understand his life.

Heck, HE was one of the ones Bawling when Eddie Gaurreo died!!

I am with you Angel, I'd like to think that he didn't do this, and everyone is jumping to conclusions...I don't follow wrestling real close, my kids love it and I'm not thrilled on some of the things they do on there.

My kids are still upset that it was supposedly a staged death for Vince McMahon, so when everyone was crying last night they weren't sure what to believe!!

So so very sad!:-1

I know nothing of this man, and nothing has been resolved at this time, but it reminds me of O.J. Simpson.

O.J. was always a favourite with the public, even with non-football fans. He was a likeable, easy going celebrity who would poke fun at himself ( the Naked Gun movies) until ...

That's what upsets me sometimes, is that they do these stunts and then when a REAL tragedy happens...OMG!!! I was talking to my b/f (who is a MAJOR fan of WWE) and we were thinking back on Eddie's death, right before he died, they had this horrible stunt with another wrestler think Ray Mysterio, not sure and feel free to correct me, but they were claiming that a boy was not his son, not sure which way it went but it was HORRIBLE stunt, showed them telling this young boy that a man was not his REAL father, and Eddie died shortly after that, if I remember correctly...how horrible...just sad!:-1

OMG it's sick, they honor a man like this and mourn his death. Sorry wipe it out. And go back to the deaths of the likes of Eddie Gerraro and Owen Hart. I don't care what the WWE knew or did not know.

Benoit has proven to be an animal. He does not deserve to even stand in the same memorial arena as Owen Hart.

Sorry this makes me ill.
