Good idea Nomad....actually, you've just reminded me that Randall use to have problems with his spellchecker...he hasn't been around lately...hope he's OK.

spellcheck is already available. if you go to 'my settings', 'my options', 'miscellaneous options', you may choose between three text editors

basic

enhanced

WYSIWYG

the enhanced and WYSIWYG editors both have spellcheck.

upper righthand corner. far right is the font size tool. nearer right is the spell check, with the 'ABC' and a checkmark.

i presume so. i just tried it and got the popup to download it. we definitely do not host or popup spyware or adware of any kind, so it's safe.

i've never used spellcheck before, so this was new to me.

No ABC, anyway. No Internet Explorer to compare with, either. I'll wait a few days and try on another computer.

you're right, i just checked in firefox, no spellcheck thingie. apparently because the spellcheck thingie is an IE plugin of sorts. that's a shame, since there's server-side spellcheck in squirrelmail for example that doesn't require any such stuff. i'll do some research when i get some time.

Can you set that up within FG given that it's an internal editor?

You can also download the Google toolbar, it has one of the best pop-up blockers and also features a spell check.

Is that the one that only works in Internet Explorer or a new one from the latest upgrade?

I know this hard for you to do but click reply and intentionally misspell a word. It should underline it in red. I'm using Firefox.

Every timre I click reply I mis-spell a word (or three) - it still doesn't underline it :-(

Do you have to load it or enable it in any way?

I didn't change anything on mine. Maybe it's a Linux issue? Mine even underlines the errors in the quote.

I've got a pushbutton on my browser to activate Jacuba on demand like Gyger, it works on IE as well as Firefox - look on http://spell.jacuba.com/ "No downloads, installation, cost, bandwidth or registration". It's just an extra click whenever I want to have it on-screen.

Koan's is different - it looks like it was installed as part of Open Office, and it just underlines errors, and suggests possible corrections on request. I've not checked but it seems likely.

Firefox 2 will have a built-in spellchecker.

I use that, it's brilliant. I have a thing about spelling and grammar, HATE bad spelling, especially when they are the same things over and over, mainly 'a lot' as one word, grr that really bugs me and 'I' as 'i'. I'd certainly recommend Google Toolbar. :D

Dear Bez,

Not to worry, randall is still around but he hasn't seen or heard of Arnold Layne or Lady Cop recently.

We, my wife and I, have had an unfortunate six months caused by both being seriously ill over Christmas and New Year up to the present.

As the good old Doctor says, "The two of you are just fit for the knackery."

Trust you and yours are well and happy.

God Bless all

randall

:) :)

PS I downloaded "ieSpell" and eventually got it onto this programme - just don't ask me how!

I am continually amazed, mainly due to a short term memory, how things just seem to "happen" in this computer world.

Have "THEY" been after you too Buttercup. I mean the Spelling Police?

The very first forum I ever tried nearly stopped me from trying forums altogether.

I asked a reasonably sensible question but fatally addressed it "Dear Sir" - as is my wont (?)

I have been "converted" since then.

One infuriated "Lady" replied vehemently that she knew the answer to my question but as it was not addressed to the fair sex she refused to answer it.

The second reply was from a "gentleman" who didn't know the answer to my question but proceeded with all the callousness of a cold hearted Scots Dominie to rip my short letter apart. Parsing it and pointing out how that part did not go with this other part - grammatically speaking.

I had used the wrong verbs, participles, nouns, pronouns, adjectives and adverbs and so on ad nauseum.

Looking back, it was a few years ago now, I think that I should have tried to find out if they were members of some institute or other - for the insane perhaps.

They say that there is a razor's edge between genius and madness?

God Bless All

randall
