Family parties and Christmas at my nan and granddad's house. Granddad was a dreyman for Whitbread's Brewery in London and he always had plenty of drink in the house and some bitter lemon especially for me.

Grandad plaiting my long blonde hair, nan always buying me tinned strawberries whenever we visited.

Being real small and flying around town in my dad's 68 Ford pickup and hanging onto the wrinkles in his pants as we turned corners.

Hanging out in the garage and the station with Dad. The smell of old 1970s gas and solvent.

Christmas shopping with my Dad. He always made it a "date."

All the times I spent with Mom just having lunch or shopping.

Trying on the Hallowe'en costumes my mom made for me every year.

Getting dolled up and going places with my grandmother.

CHRISTMAS! Man. Where did the magic go?!

Spending summers and sometimes Christmas in the mountains when my cousin and I were still young enough to think magic was still a reality.

Coming home from grade school on a crisp fall day and sacking out in the front room with a new book.

Scholastic Book Day! I was the only kid in class who dragged home 15-20 new books in a big cardboard box- the box the other kids' books came in. :wah:

Friday Taco Night in our backyard with the neighbors.

Jimmy Mathis, my first crush. He died when I was 16. He was amazing.

Burning "black worms" on the sidewalk on July 4th.

Who's gonna read this.

Boy great question I was blessed with a great family and friends we had a ball most every day. Growing up in San Diego California every day was summer and we spent most days at the beach surfing. That was when the beaches weren't crowded at all. I grew up in the 50's and 60's and they were special times for sure. You could play outside, go on adventure in the canyons, stay out late and not fear anything, ride your bike all over the city. It was just a carefree time and I cherrished it greatly. :-6

when i lived in houston we traveled twice a year to south georgia for two weeks at a time..me , my sister and brother went wild running across the farm land with all the cousins..we had a ball...:wah:we terorised the chickens..broke the eggs and made mud pies with them...rearranged all the tobacco sticks in the loft..rode the pigs and cows..climbed the trees...at least one of us would fallin the gold fish pond everytime.we swam in the pond and the local creek..pissed off the beavers by dismantling their huts..played hide and seek in the corn fields.tried to ride the horses bareback..usually let the bunnies go.....aaaaaaaaah that was the life..we would be outside all day long and come in at dark looking like dirt pigs....i loved it. i remember papa loading up a pile of us kids and taking us to the local country store and buying strawberry drinks and dream cycles and candy bars for a quarter..

Gosh I have many

Flying to Vancouver Island for christmas and being with my aunt, 3 cousins and uncle who arrived from the phillipines that one year was truly a 10 on the memory scale. It had been about 8 years since we all had been together.

Being put on a train at age 16 with my brother (age 14) and going to Vancouver Island on our own, we had to train it for 24 hours, get off the train, get to the bus station, catch the bus then cross on the Ferry to our awaiting grandparents. Wow back then that was safe to do.

The many family and friend functions at my Aunts where she made huge dinners and cake. She decorated her cakes with icing roses and we were always wanting to eat them but she could not stack the icing proper so used a yucky date stood up and piped the icing around it to look good. Back then that tasted horrid.

Hungarian picnics, many friends and family gathered on a farm out of town for an all day picnic, there was food, drink, dancing & music all done up Gypsy style.

Grandmas baking

Making homemade saussage in Grans basement

My grandmas awesome garden yummm red currants.

My first trip to Disneyland with my parents

Visits at my great aunt Eileens, she had a yard filled with all kinds of cool decorations, critters, gnomes, fancy flowers it was fantacy land.

and more....

Going to the feed store with my Papa Bill. While he ordered his feed, I played with the chicks and ducklings.

"Why not just tell people I'm an alien from Mars. Tell them I eat live chickens and do a voodoo dance at midnight. They'll believe anything you say, because you're a reporter. But if I, Michael Jackson, were to say, 'I'm an alien from Mars and I eat live chickens and do a voodoo dance at midnight', people would say, 'Oh, man, that Michael Jackson is nuts. He's cracked up. You can't believe a damn word that comes out of his mouth.' " Michael Jackson

I had a wonderful childhood and have many great memories of it.

Heck I remember my mom owning an ancient old rambler car and her calling dad cause the "wheel fell off" in the parking lot and him packing me and my brother into his car to go fetch her, gosh we still laugh at the demise of her poor old "putt"

My mum letting me empty the kitchen cupboards of food to play shops with my brother in the living room then when we got bored she put it all away without us!

Going to the beach and rock pooling.

Dad reading to me in a silly voice to make me laugh

Wandering the countryside without worrying about anything!

This is the sweetest topic! Someone remarked they weren't sure who was interested in this, but I for one read all of the posts, and many of the experiences you all had I could relate to and this brought up my good childhood memories. So thanks for that! :-4 I have so many memories of Christmas. I do think I loved it so much because the holiday lasted sooo long, like someone said, setting up the decorations, setting the table for family and friends, minds and hearts geared up to the giving, all of that sticks in my mind. My best memories revolved around place. The beach, river, mountains, I grew up in geographically diverse state-Oregon.

My Dad died when I was 5 in an airplane crash in the military. He built me a mermaid scalloped bed when I had chicken pox and painted it pink that spring. I remember him spending so much time with me. I remember his face and his laugh. My Mom says that is a real memory.

My Favourite Childhood Memories are:

Sitting on my birth Dads lap and watching Wonder Woman (he left when I was 5)

Making camps in the woods and taking picnics there

Going to my Nans in London and staying in the school holidays, getting on a bus and shopping in the markets and every Wednesday she would have Fish and Chips for a treat

Getting penny sweets from the newsagents

Taking bottles back to the club and being paid in pennies for the bottle

Living life without a care in the world

Believing I was the next Madonna :-4

Wearing the same clothes as my Best Friend and thinking we looked cool :o

One of my favourite child hood memories was also from Salisbury. It was in 1966 when the world cup was on, but I wasn't interested in that, I was treated to an army display on the plains. I fired a heavy calibre automatic weapon, watched an Honest John missile being fired, rode across the plains on a tank and all day watched target practice by various field artillery, Abbot tanks and self propelled Howitzers, although I did later get a headache.

Another memory was when I was in Ceylon watching elephants being washed in rivers and playing with local children in 1962.

Or sailing half way across the world on the SS Strathaird and Stratheden and winning the fancy dress competition on two occasions.

I do remember staying at the Bear Hotel in Devizes and I watched a film being made...'far from the madding crowd'

The sweet smell of hay and the musky smell of sweaty horse. The sound of the ocean, sea gulls and walking in sand. I almost get weak in the knees when I hear the surf, the gulls. Fresh hot bread, with fresh churned butter.

Damn. I miss my mother.

There are so many good childhood memories but for me one of them must be VE day the end of WW2 , we had 3 days of celebrations in the street , we had bonfires every night , dad had a load of fireworks that had been given to him a year or two before ( they all worked) god knows where all the food came from as it was rationed , all the houses had their lights on ( black out had ended ) that memory is still vivid in my mind :guitarist:guitarist

I think it was Easter at grandmas. The two grandmas were drinking sherry and started bickering so we packed dinner up and went home with one of the drunk grandmas. We reheated the dinner and soon after grandma's head fell into a dish of sweet potatoes. She laughed and laughed with sweet potatoes all over her face.

Some of my favourite childhood memories....

Laying in the garden with my friends making shapes in the clouds

Going swimming with my mum

Picking my dad up from the airport when he was home on leave:-4

Spending lots of time with my grandad and listening to all his stories

Sitting with my mum on a rainy Saturday afternoon watching old movies

Picking Primroses to press and send to dad in a letter

Writing a letter to my day when he was going away again - sneaking it in his suitcase so he'd get it when he got back to work.

Living in Saudi Arabia

One of my best memories ever......The day my sister was born:-4
Very nearly perfect ... :D

Many of my childhood memories were when I lived in Jersey City, NJ. We had a big field behing us. All the kids in the neighborhood would ride the horses from Chuck's stable, roast mickies, and have picnics and BBQ's in the field.

My other favorite memories are always "Going down to the shore." I now live where my childhood memories were.
