What have you learned about yourself from forums?

Post by guppy »

I figured out i am not a child..anylonger..i used to jump into the conflict threads to try and bring peace..but now i just watch..and stay out of it..

i used to feel like if my threads didnt get answered...it was personal..not..i finally got that..

i figured out we are all different..have different backgrounds that we carry with us in our lives..so people react to different things i might not..and i try really hard not to judge

i see some bring passion to conflict..feed of of it..yet some seek harmony and bring that with them in their posts..its my choice which way i want to go..just like it is there's..

i have also learned to not try and save someone..show them a better way..esp..if they havent asked...that is codependency..to me..there is a big difference between guidance and saving..to me one is healthy..and the other is not..

oh yea..nomad is a trip..:D

That, compared to some, I can't hold a grudge despite trying. :wah:

That people online generally all have a purpose and an agenda be it to have fun and make friends or to make themselves feel better through good means or bad and it doesn't matter what country they are in, they are pretty much the same in percentage of those I like and those I don't. Except Americans. (just kidding)

That just about everything seems like a platitude after two years on the same forum.

That it is hard to be nice to newbies some days but it is worth making the effort to be nice.

That at least half the people I've met have thought I was a bitch at some point.

That, despite trying, no one has managed to make me like myself less or more than I would were I somewhere else.... but more people listen to what I say. We come and we read. Offline most people are just too darn busy trying to buy stuff to notice anyone else.

I think I've learned that sometimes forums are much like real life. But that they can also become too involving, and take the place of real life if one is living life through the Internet. At the same time I have learned much about other cultures that I didn't know before. Even made friends with people on other countries through forums. That's cool.

The bad part about forums is I've been to some that are outright rude. And those will attract rude and abusive users. So I have learned to just leave those. And also that it does seem to me that there are lots of American haters in other countries. And lots of phonies on forums too. I can see people acting out online through what they write on forums.

Ive learned not to get mad, or hurt. Ive learned that emmotionally charged replys just dissapear into nothingness after a few days. Ive accepted that despite attachments I form here, I know I will never meet the people.

Ive learned that the impression I get from agressive, angry, or vengeful posters is correct. But that they will try to do damage, and then eventually just leave.Ive learned there are more good people, than bad. Here in the US and in every country represented here.

Ive learnt that I am not alone with all that I have experienced and endured in my life and that on a forum you can express yourself without worrying how you will look in other ppls eyes as you will never meet them or strike up a deep and meaningful relationship, so you are able to be 100% honest about everything.

I have also learnt, from some of my responses, that I may harbour bitter feelings which I had never noticed until I joined FG.

I have learned that you can get fond of people and then they disappear.

That the world does not revolve around me.

That age and race is no barrier to friendships formed.

That lots of people join forums and never post

That there are forums for just about anything out there.

You will allways get a few troublemakers.

That most people are nice.

I've learned that I love monkeys and showing my boobs!! (the emoticon kind, not my real ones)

I've learned not to take it personally when people don't respond to me too Guppy!

I've learned that Koan KNOWS that people at one time thought she was a bitch....I'm one of them, but only in the beginning when she wasn't nice to me as a Newbie!!:D:wah:

I've learned that Jimbo is a nutter!--and that nutter is a fun word to say!

I've learned that Magenta Flame doesn't mind spiders and snakes crawling on her....I'd be in a coma!!

I've learned that dubs can tell me to Shut up a million times and it will make me laugh every time!!:-4

I've learned that friends are hard to come by in this crazy world, but they are accessible in my computer, and for that I'm very greatful!!

I like debating/ arguing with people with whom I disagree. It's even more fun if there is a fundamental disagreement because it makes you think.

I can't be bothered with idiots that join a discussion forum and then take it personally if someone disagrees with them.

Excellent thread, Gupster!

I've learned that people you've never met can surprisingly impact your life.

I've learned that getting all hot and bothered over someone's ridiculous statements is a waste of energy (well, I'm still learning that one). :p

I've learned that the people I respect the most treat others with quiet dignity and grace.

I've learned that some people like me more than I like myself.

I've learned that we really are all works in progress.

I've learned the value of expressing a kind and loving thought to someone else, as simple as that may seem, can truly make a person's day and is without question ALWAYS worth the effort. :-6

I've learnt there are a lot of great people all over the world.

I've learnt there are a lot of 'nutty' great people all over the world.

I've learnt not to be upset when no one posts in my thread ;)

I've learnt not to entirely believe posts where someone is trying to get their version across - there are two sides to every story.

I've learnt (umm trying, to learn) not to post after a few red wines - specially after not having any alcohol in a while (:o)

I'm wondering why this spell checker does not like the way I spelt 'learnt'.

I've learnt Wisey won't send me that great cap :D

I've learned that people who cannot respect difference of opinion and or in their fight to be "right"often resort to putdowns and redicule...and its telling of that persons character..:D

I've learned that most people don't get my sense of humor. But, perhaps it's better in person, I dunno.

I haven't learned not to get upset when people don't respond to my post or my threads. It still hurts :o

I've learned that as long as I have been here, no one really knows me.

But the good thing about that is that I can say anything that is bothering me, just to get it off my chest, and no one notices! :wah:

I still haven't learned how to speak or understand, Scottish, Welsh, England's English or any of the other language slangs on here. I stay confused most of the time and my dictionary does not cover those words! :D

I've learned the people on here can be tremendously sweet to each other when it counts the most. And some of the debates or grips are more interesting here than the crap I deal with at work.

I've learned that no matter how old you are, boobs are still fascinating to men!

I've learnt a hell of a lot about other cultures.

I've been forced to learn a lot about what's going on in the world and what happened in the past - just to stop from making too big a prat of myself.

I've learnt to change my point of view when I'm wrong.

I've learnt that when you get abusive you've lost.

But mostly, I've learnt to appreciate the good people and to try to be more like them.

Amazing how many people think they can win an argument by using their own definitions for the terms they're using.

I've learned that even online, as in real life, I'm an incredibly strong personality that a lot of people don't know what to do with. But, I'd rather be disliked for who I am than be liked for who I am not.

I can't say I've learned anything about myself, but going through old PMs that I've saved, I've learned the garden has not really changed over the years. It's really neither better nor worse. Some of the names have changed, some have not. The things I liked and disliked about the garden then, are basically the same now.
