Want to buy a share in my music??

Post by Galbally »

Hey all. Now I have to do my salesman voice.

I have enrolled into the website "sellaband.com" it allows musicians to sell shares in themselves at $10 a go. The way it works is this. The artist puts themselves forward on the site, and people who like the music and believe that the material is of a quality that will make money can buy a share or shares in the musician's first album at ten dollars per share.

Once the total pledged goes to $50,000 (which represents 5,000 people buying a share) then the artist records the album using the money, and the album is released commerically in the shops and also online. Each shareholder then has a stake in the album and recieves a profit based on the sales and on the size of their shareholding.

Each shareholder also recieves a limited edition copy of the album as well, which at least makes buying one share worthwhile as albums cost more than 10 dollars. To date 9 artists have already reached the 50,000 dollar threshold so the idea works to that exent at least. Whether any have actually gone on to make money I don't know, but its a good idea for musicans like me who want to get their music released.

So if you know me music and wanna buy a share in galbally, or if you are just curious check out www.sellaband.com/galbally to hear what the music is like! If you think its a good idea and want to get involved don't forget to spread the word as well. I have only just put the site up, so hopefully over the next few months I will be able to generate interest online. This is the only forum I really visit so people spreading the word is really important. I am not great at the self-publicity stuff, but I think this is one of the better online ideas for music so I am gonna give it a try.

Thanks KB, thats cool. I will need to get the word out there, its only a pledge anyway though I am not sure I better check that out. I will keep this thing current anyway for anyone who is interested. If anyone has any ideas for how to publicize the idea or how to reach as many people on the net as possible let me know, its all new to me! :guitarist

I just want to say that I got some questions about this idea in terms of what guarentees people have that they will be able to be sure its not just a way of generating interest payments for the company while the artist is waiting to reach this target or how cast-iron it all is and that people can be confident that isn't just a way of getting our hard earned coppers out of us.

I am fairly happy that the thing is on the level, but like all of these things, you have to look closely at how it works and that you are happy with it. So please look closey at the terms and cons. Also I want people to wait for a bit if they are interested as I want to double check that everything is right with all the aspects of this. As the last thing I want is to get involved in something that isn't completely straight. :guitarist

Thats cool pinks I appreciate your confidence in me! It's down to whether people have a reasonable belief that I can get enough people interested to get that kinda amount invested. I don't know, I think the music is good obviously, though I will have to get more people knowing about it, well, its a valid thing to try I suppose, and people can get their money back as well, so essentially they can't lose anything as I certainly don't want people getting ripped off on my behalf. I will have a lot of work ahead trying to get people to click onto the music, but I will give it a good go! Oh and sorry I haven't hadd time to get involved in any more food fights on facebook! :guitarist
