Galbally wrote: Okay I did my interview, it was for a research posting in a science college, there are 2 project areas, the first involves studying the behavior and lifecycle of nematodes in order to determine the quality of soil microclimates in envionmentally sensitive areas, the second is the remediation (or fixing) of habitiats via enzyemes in areas that have been poluted primarily with PCBs, (which are the chemicals that can leech out of plastics and from industry) and cause problems for creature such as amphibians and other smaller creatures such as Metazoans, which are very small creatures (like nematodes) that are present in soils and wetlands and are vital in the overall health of an area or habitat. Told you it was all a bit sciency, but its really interesting work, and it would result in a phD so I am really excited about doing it, I don't know yet whether I will get a post, as its slightly to one side of what I did as a chemist in University, but I have a decent chance, so fingers crossed. Thanks for the encouragement and interest, much appreicated.

I'd guess that the second would be the more interesting - given the stability of the PCBs, getting them to break down in the environment without killing everything around them off would be quite a challenge.

The very best of luck with it - it should keep you occupied for years if you get the job and a PhD sounds not bad on your CV.

How soon do you expect to hear?

Apparently people with our tragic condition are also prone to this thing that happens in your nose called polupesia, its not very cool, I have had it. On a more attractive note, in choosing a partner for the evening, your level of drunkeness is a key factor, the more wine you drink the more attractive someone like myself would become, however, if you are sober, then Clancy would probably be the safer bet. So how drunk are ye yet? I bet ye are both being completely sensible and are only getting onto your third bottle each now.

I will know next week, they are both quite challenging areas, I'm thinking of forwarding the lead scientist in charge with my version of the father ted song as a sample of my discernment and complete professionalism. This thread moves between comedy songs, pinky and hamsters week-long co-habitation, drinking, wine until you puke, and my prospective scientific work, thats a lot of ground covered.

Yes I think I could do both quite well actually, unfortunaly I also have the unfortunate habit of getting into the craziest situations that are completely not my fault. For example I once had a gun pulled on me by an Italian mafia guy while waiting in a bar in Munich, Germany, for a German Elvis impersonator who I was driving to a charity gig, and I only got out of it by singing him Doors songs (i.e. the 1960s American band) in broken German. I'm deadly serious, that really happened to me, surprising I didn't get shot when I think about it, my German and my Jim Morrison impersonations are both crap. So if I have a zany sense of humour its been completely informed by my experiences. You have been warned.

Strictly speaking the scientists are not supposed to express opinons about religions and beliefs though they do of course coz everyone does. Actually there is a famous white which coven not far from where I live in a big castle (that I don't own unfortunatly) where the witchy women get up to all sorts of interesting things, at least thats what the local men say, hmmmnn. :thinking:

How big do you want?

Manage attachments is showing me 488.3KB for MP3, 976.6KB for WAV and 1.91MB for WMV - they should be good for, at a guess, 30 seconds play time

[QUOTE=Clancy]Shiny Happy People :) Great Pic !!

This is for the two girls who are enjoying a laugh and a drink or two. I laid the comp head-set, mic on top of the keyboard, and ....well it's recognisable. It's a tune called, Here Comes the Sun.....and you two bring a lot of sunshine in here.....I just wish the system would accept bigger files, as sometimes a tiny segment isn't enough, but it's better than nothing at all. :)

Nice one mister C, its a nice guitar piece to play that one is, sounds good.

Clancy, I could listen to that kind of guitar playing all day long. A taster just makes me want to have the full concert.

I foresee an FG meet up at Clancy's. We'll provide the wine if you provide the music of your fingers.
