Hi Hamster

I think (as who can truly know...............) that there is a place, whether this is called heaven (as in my religious indoctrination of catholicism) or known by another name (utopia or the likes...........).

I believe this not from a dogmatic religious position only that I try on a daily basis to assist in enabling people to create positive changes and I believe that what is achieved here will be rewarded in the next place. What isnt achieved here will be carried forwards into the next 'place' for either us to carry on or others to do so on our behalf.

I dont think that we can do everything that we need to whilst here on this earth, so i am guided and feel what is being delivered by my mum etc, there must be something else. No i dont hear voices or recieve signals, i just 'feel'. Maybe its what your parents taught you to do or its within your value base, I aint sure.

Sartre within being and nothingness is a very interesting addition to this discussion. Although others may have a differing viewpoint.

bye for now

Hi again

I would say that this 'place' is just 'here' to me, I'll qualify that in the following way.

I consider the concept of 'inner place' as the sanctum for considered thought and deliberation, such an environment that i would turn to when i want or need to find a deeper meaning to an issue. Some would consider this as the mind, others may consider it the heart. I feel mine comes from my soul, it is part of my fundamental makeup.

My concept of where 'out there' actually exists, could be considered whether there is another world or place, I dont actually know as the debate can vary from whether there is heaven to are there aliens? i suppose you could even debate the issue of string theory within cosmology should you care to consider that this was our beginning.

So what about this place 'here'? well we could go down the road of Being, and try to delve into what our time in this place should be. The question of being is a very large area indeed! suffice to say that I consider'here' to be the journey of life that we go through from this place to the next. It shapes us through the experiences that we have and the friendships that we make. This enables our life to be more enriched.

Thats about it sorry for the disertation

bye for now

Hi Again

I find that turning inwards helps me to analyse things to their core components (as I used to be told that i over analyse things). I have friends that I run things by, however I enjoy thinking through issues myself. You have to be careful to watch that you dont internalise things too much, (this I think can be damaging).

But in my view thinking through things and internalising are two different things.

Yes you got it right in that I truly believe that our experiences shape our being.

Sartre defines being in a more deeper manner however I had a teaching exam earlier tonight and aint in the headspace to even try and discuss it!! (I dont think it went to well either!!).

Other things can shape and assist being like friendship and good debate!!

thats all for now #

speak soon

First off, I feel the need to point out that this is my first post to these forums, and that I found it in a completey fortuitous accident, as I was actually looking for some gardening tips while on a break at work and found a philosophy forum instead.

I read this particular thread and felt the urge to share my views and my beliefs so I joined up and I hope to be a part of many discussions in the future. :)

On Topic:

I feel that what we truly feel will happen will be what happens for each of us on an individual level when we pass. Be that heaven, hell, reincarnation, fertilizer, or any other of the infinite possibilities, I feel that we all create the reality in which each of us lives and dies.

Take the OP's signature quote for instance.

"What we think, we become."

It can be taken in a few different ways, depending on the context and the bias of the reader, but my personal preference for it is actually rather literal. The energy we put into ourselves be that of a negative nature (detrimental to ourselves or others) or a positive nature (loving ourselves and others) is what our soul feeds on, creating our awareness of the energies around us. If certain thoughts enter our minds on a regular basis then these energies are more likely to form in reality.

My line of thinking comes from dreams and contemplating what they are and what they mean, along with some books I've read on personal philosophies (Conversations with God & The Celestine Prophecy to name a couple of my favorites), as well as books new and old about physics, out of body experiences, and a lot of healthy fiction.

Basically once one becomes aware that they are dreaming we have absolute control of their environment. Our "thought" energy becomes their reality very quickly. Outside of the dream state these changes to reality come much more slowly, sort of like a training ground on how to use them, with our dreams there to remind us of what we are supposed to be practicing.

So what that comes down to ,for me anyway, is that upon death, we move more fully into that dream state. Our reality becomes more and more malleable and depending on how aware of it we are, the more likely we are to move even more fully into it.

Naturally this is a condensed line of thinking about which I've done a great deal. I also believe in reincarnation as a tool that we use to experience and learn in this existance until we are ready to move on.

Because of all of this, the one underlying rule of my entire faith is simply not to question another's faith, while staying as true to my own as possible. One of the things of which I am constantly reminding myself is that there is no wrong way, there are only ways in which I disagree.
