I don't know, but it's the law. You also seem to have missed my note re. "more likely". I suppose I will have to look up the details - it was, if you remember, "AFAIR".

Bill, I think we are getting off on the wrong foot, here. I have no malice at all in what I write here. I have been defending the fact that I hunt for 2 days now, (as you can see from the 11 pages of replies) and you came out of nowhere with the arrow sticking out of the deer statement. I took that as critical, and if that's not how it was intended, my apologies.
As for the bow vs. rifle and if a deer suffers more with one or the other, I was hoping for some facts or documentation on it, that's all. I did see the "more likely" and was hoping you could show me some facts.
Also, what is a "quarrel" in the context you used it? And is "AFAIR" an acronym of some sort?
Hey Weeder: It's all so clear to me now! A florist...I should've got that.

As I said, I'll dig about & see what I can find.

It's the thing you loose from a crossbow. Sometimes called a "bolt".

Yup. "As far as I remember" (cf. "AFAIK" etc -

Yes, we call it a bolt here or a dart. But hunting with a crossbow is not legal, except for the handicapped who are not physically capable of pulling a regular bow. And even then, they need a special (and rather expensive) license. Thanks for taking the time to look that up for me. I'd be real interested in what you find.

That really surprises me.... I would have thought that the higher energy of the projectile and better accuracy (in general) would have made the crossbow more popular.

It is very popular! Many hunters own them to target shoot with, but they are considered a weapon that is too dangerous for everyone to have in the woods. When you are hunting during bow season, you can be almost invisible with your camoflage. During rifle season, hunters are required to wear blaze orange. An arrow will not travel very far in the woods if it misses it's target, a crossbow dart can travel an amzing distance. You are more likely to injure someone with a crossbow dart, that's why they limit the use of them.

"Bracer"? Not sure what that means, but if you're refferring to the term "blaze orange" it's a flourescent orange piece of clothing (usually a vest) that can be seen from a long distance. When a hunter sees that color he knows not to fire in that direction.

Bracer. Stiffener. Nip. A drink of (usu.) spirits to restore the nervous fibre. I guessed the orange! I don't know what "gmc" would think of that.

I was pretty sure you knew what I meant. And who is "gmc" and why would you need a drink? (I'm just full of questions, huh?)

Gmc is a contributer here - he comes from further away than Up North - Scotland. There's some good shooting up there. In that environment, I don't think that fluorescent orange apparel would be appreciated!

Anyone here ride motorcycles? How about hunting? Those are two of my all-time favorite things to do, and I'd like to hear from anyone who shares those interests.
I'm also a mom, a bartender, just got engaged, (planning a wedding, any tips out there???), and I love to debate and discuss all kinds of things.
Funny thing, I somehow found myself on the site called "Bolt" and after poking around, found a discussion on gun control, one of my passions. I started to post some replies, and found out my opinion wasn't very popular. That didn't bother me so much, and I soon realized, it was a teen forum. There is nothing in the home page to give a clue to that, and I'm wondering if this is the same thing here. Any slightly older folks here? I'm 34, and don't have a whole lot of patience for being told I'm an idiot by people who aren't old enough to vote yet. (haha). So, I'm looking forward to hearing from anyone! Happy New Year, all!
Welcome and I assure you this is a nice mature forum but we have a good variety of ages. A little something for everyone. Bikes and hunting very cool hobbies. Well I know very little of each, My BF is more into both, I am a mere bike passenger for now and as for hunting sorry I don't know much about it other than some of the meat is quite delicious. Gun control, well that is an interesting topic and being Canadian I support it. Wedding plans hmmm keep them simple and inexpensive and save money for your future if at all possible. Elope would be my suggestion but I am divorced and went through the "big fancy" and would not reccomend it to anyone.
Enjoy your stay and debate away.
