I know what you mean, Skittles. My best friend and I went to a store the other day. (He's Navajo, I'm Anglo) I was there to get my amp out of hock, he wanted to look at the expensive machinist tools in a case. (He's a Computer Assisted Machinist and makes triple what I do.)

The guy tells him, "This case is for customers only" Assuming:

1. A Native American could not have a job that needed them.

2. A native American has no money.

My friend shows him a wallet full of bills and tells him, "There goes that $800 sale."

I take it worse. I tell the guy, "You blasted racist, he's a computer assisted machinist and I'm a Math proffesor. Where do you get off acting better than us? You're just a dumb pawnshop guy! Now get behind that counter!"

So Skittles, what's your tribe?

Good for you, Jives. He deserved to be made an example of.

As for the obnoxious teens...the only thing I could think is to grab their trash and throw it back into the car. If they are moving too fast you could set it aside and dump it on the hood of the car next time you see it parked. You would merely be returning it to them. Unfortunately it takes a lot of embarrassment to shut teens up nowadays and even then, they might come back with guns. Scary stuff this modern world.

Teens the bane of adulthood. Too young to be one of the crew. Too old to be a teenager. What a life. Must be fun to be a teen but it won't be fun when they have to get out of the car and walk.

Like koan's idea lots but then again I always like her ideas. If they can fix the car then I could expect that they'll figure out how to pick up the garbage. Good thing that I never, ever, well hardly ever, dissed older people when I was that age. We should take stock and next time that they show up break out the tanks and crush their insolence. Tell them that you are going to send them to the land of snow if they don't smarten up and fly right.

You'll just have to stop them before they get out of hand. If they want to do the OK corral then I'm game. We'll show these guys that our teenageism was better than their teenageism. Smarty alecs.

People complain a lot about "kids these days". My problem is not with the kids. It's with the adults who raise them!

Last guy from the rez that lived with me said it was kosher for me to use it. Sort of like the word that Afro-Americans use in select company. Sort of one of the words that you have to be there in order to appreciate how it is used and referenced. Didn't want to mix people up by leading them to think I was referring to East Indians. Or West Indians. American aboriginals are unique. Use that word and look at what happens.

Lay odds I can trace them back to the Chinese/Asian culture. Which in turn can be traced back to the African culture. Go figure? Yes, I used the term. If you are not familiar with it, it is in the dictionary. :-4

I know that. Even had a song named after you and your ancestry, "Cherokee Nation". One of my favourites. Empowerment of oppressed people coming to life. There was only one film that I had ever seen where the Indians, although the bad guys, were the heroes of the picture because they didn't massacre the fort dwellers. Just made them pack their bags and go home? So, since I was about six, that is the movie that is of most significance to my remembering Indians.

Make you a deal? You, me and Jives hunting down bozo and giving him what for.

Threadjack...

Valerie, you sweet pea :) Thank you for your kind thoughts. I appreciate it.

And, a quick update...I am almost through this busy season. Yay!! I should be at work right now finishing up...no excuses as to why I'm not. LOL

But soon it will be done, and we can work a mere 6 days a week for March, then back to a cushy 5 days a week.

I can't wait to tackle my house. It's so dirty - ewwwww!! And, for all that this experience has been a complete drag, I've learned a lot more than I realized.

Today is a good day. I asked for special permission to put up a Do Not Disturb sign at my cubicle, so that I can work like a demon and finish my project without interruptions like:

Can you print this Excel workskeet for me?...(Well, I could if you'd get out of the file.)

Where is the backup? I don't see the backup...(It's in your hand.)

Ohh, did you need me to do this right away? I was thinking I could get to it next week....(It was due yesterday, so I'll do it. Thanks anyway.)

It's the interruptions that really test my patience. Occasionally I call a coworker and ask if murder is still illegal. LOL.

I am usually little miss PollyAnna but yesterday I was so stressed (and silent) that I literally scared people. The administrative assistants told me so, and asked what they could do because if I go down, it ruins morale. I'm usually the one cheering us on, assuring everyone we can do this, and generally making people's teeth ache with my sweet happy attitude. LOL! But I'm through the worst of it now.

The Do Not Disturb sign will help A LOT! Yay! Now, I just have to remember where I put my sense of humor....
We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act but a habit.

I liked it because the portrayals were more than real. It gave a perspective that wasn't tolerated or accepted for years.

There is a lot of Canadian fare put out by the First Nations in this country. They even have their own cable TV station. Obviously talented and practicing their talents to the nth degree. Have our share of the others but alcoholism is the great equallizer in the race card. It doesn't know colour or race.

Natives have their own place(s) to gather and help those that are in distress with social services that caters to the homeless by bringing them food. Doing everything that everyone else is doing.

Excellent series that ran for years about life on the rez. Fairly real situations. No cowboy and Indian fare. Resolvable problems. We aren't the best in the world but we give them their due and they act accordingly. They are people. No less and no more than we are.

Graham Greene, a Canadian indian, gained prominence through the film by being nominated for an Oscar. Any film that is nominated for an Oscar means that it is being watched and appreciated by hundreds of million of people worlwide.

As Well Natives do not pay GST, have government subsidies readily available to them 24-7, refceive monthy compensation monies from the government. etc

I fixed the thing with the lady's glasses. We forgave each other for the unpleasant phone call that ended in me hanging up on her. She left saying, "It's great that it ends up with everyone being happy!" (I'm referring back to my boring post earlier in this thread that none of you remembers :-2 )

IMO- There ought to be a law to limit the amout of wealth one person can have.

I just got the Sunday newspaper here in South Florida, and was shocked to see some of the "prices" of houses here! 4.2 mil, 6.6 mil, 9.8 mil, what do these people do for a living to have so much money to be able to afford these jumbo price houses? Mind you most of these people are not known celebreties, but they still can afford to buy these houses.

Many people have more money than they know what to do with! More than they, & their children & their children's children could ever spend in their lifetimes.

So IMO, (I know I would be killing free enterprise) there should be some sort of limit to the amount of wealth one person/family can accumulate.

I don't know what that limit would be, but after that limit was reached the remainder of any money would go into some sort of fund that helped the needy!

WELL I VENTED, AND I FEEL A LITTLE BETTER, but not much! :-5

I think the easiest law to pass would be a limit on how much can be inherited. So much for all the spoiled rich kids who never have to learn how to survive in the real world.

William Penn (Pennsylvania) had these thoughts also. He was caught between giving it to the state or giving it to his children.

The rationale for not giving it to the kids was that they did not understand how it was amassed and because of that they would, within a generation or two, have frittered away the estate through living the money and not making the money.

He eventually gave it to the kids but it is an age old dilemma. Still no answer in sight but at least people are talking about it. Massive fortunes means massive headaches. Headaches some people enjoy. Money can't buy you love but to a lot of people lust will do just fine.

Spoiled kids that don't have to work for a living will become the new Romanesque Patricians who will cause the Fall of the American Empire. That is the popular perceived outcome in the death of Amerika culture which its foes often refer to as the ending of the American Dream.

How long do people have to survive under the decadent conditions? How depraved will the Patricians become in order to maintain their lifestyles and authority? What defines fall? Destruction of the infrastructures? Destruction of the intelligentsia? Civilizations fall when their influences abates. Age has a lot to do with it.

I enjoy being female, so no complaints about that.

Annoyances: Speeders on the highway and the high cost of gasoline

Too many commercials on the Television

Most Rap music

Bees and Wasps

Crazy glue getting stuck on your fingers

The Common Cold

The sound of the Alarm Clock in the morning

Being rushed to do something at the Last Minute

Other than that, I am pretty easy-going and again, I Enjoy Being A Female.
Life is a Highway. Let's share the Commute.

yeah, I know how you feel. I played dodgeball with the kids yesterday and today I can't use my right shoulder.

Right now what's annoying me is that it's 8:30 at night, the kids finished their finals at night school 2 hours ago, but I'm still here grading them and will be for another hour.

meanwhile....I'm missing 'Survivor."
