Oh, please do Ducky. In fact I have 2 really good books to send onto Quin...one is a math dictionary and the other a language Arts dictionary. They're books we use in 3rd grade and Quin can use the info even in high school.:-6 I'll send them on when I return to school next week....

Quin will be doing a lot of geometry and writing this year...it's a big push for the 3rd grade testing.

Sorry that it did not come to fruition, but my class last year was very immature and couldn't handle this activity.

I believe that my class this year is more adaptable.

I thought it would be fun to do an activity that worked with my class this year..."Exploring the roots, stems and leaves of a plant." Kidlets loved it....so simple to do....Maybe we could do it in the spring....Let's think about it.

He'll also be learning cursive writing...they start them young. He was grounded today...so book report started.

Kathy's class helped my Quin do a project last spring...Flat Stanley. His teacher & the principal both commented that it was excellent. I just found out this summer taht there will only be one 3rd grade classroom with 35 students...a disgrace in my opinion...if they get 3 more students to apply to the school they will add a second 3rd grade.:-5:-5:-5

Well, it's September 2nd and I've been in my school and classroom for the last 3 weeks setting up and organizing my room and going to one million, billion, zillion meetings and workshops....

SOOOOOOO today I finally met my 21 3rd graders. Wow, they are special, and I'm very lucky. I've absolutely loved my 1st day with my group. We had fun all day....did some math and reading activities, took a tour of the school for our new kids, took a mile walk around the school after lunch, had a public speaking activity, handed out a million memos from our PTO, ate some apples and bananas that I brought for a treat, and just got to know each other.

I'm exhausted. I don't know how you parents do it day in and day out.:wah: I can't wait to see them tomorrow:-6

Was thinking of you today & told Quin...Kathy Ellen is already back to school & has a class to teach...he wanted to know why your kids go back a week before him..? Every district is different...Oh, I'm sure it's quiet on your street this week & next week will be even quieter...now for the weekend...:rolleyes: you know the drill...:wah: Actually one of Quin's friends went back last week. She goes to a private school & believe me her parents can afford it:wah:...she's an only child..I think the tuition is around $10 grand for one year...and I'm b&M about $5 grand for a high schooler...

? At least I'll be paying the 10 grand next year as I'll have 2 in high school...Quin shoudl be a piece of cake...script does pay off.

Our district always starts on Sept. 1st as we're a beach area. Most of our community work in the tourist industry or on the boardwalk or beach. So, we start early in Sept. so we can finish by June 18th or so. This way all the locals can start their summer jobs.

How wonderful that you are a teacher.

What subject do you teach and how old are your kids? If you don't mind me asking.

Grades are likely different classifications here so probably easier (for me) to give an age so i know what primary or secondary class that would be.

We can buy gift certificates through the school from anywhere to grocery stores, major stores, restaurants, etc. Gift cards...lowers the tuition. The certain stores give a credit from anywhere from 2% to 10% off the tuition and we get the full % off the tuition....so I'm already planning to buy loads of it this whole year starting in Sept. My mom, sister & neighbors buy it...I get it & deliver the cards...it does help.

Well, thanks to Aussie Pam posting about Oz's Moon Festivals, I was inspired to develop a bulletin board outside of my classroom.....Thanks so much Pam:-6 It's called....."By the light of the silvery moon....." and I sang the song for my kidlets.

Well, my wee 3rd graders, 8yr.olds, have had some experience last year with their technology class. They knew how to log on to the computer and type a story in a simple word program.

Last week, with just 2 lessons, and then using an LCD player in the tech lab, they were able to locate Microsoft Word, locate a picture in clip art, enlarge the pic, write an autumn poem and center it, save, and find the black ink printer and the color printer.

If they can do all of this with 2 lessons....then why can't they figure out addition/subtractions algorithms, and understand the fact that 25 represents 20 + 5 or 2 groups of 10 and 5 ones ????????

I still have some 'stuff' to add to the side of the bb board, but it's basically completed. On Friday, our Tech teacher will take a pic of the board and put it on our school home site....Woooohoooooo....kidlets are excited.....

The bulletin board is so big that I have to post it in sections and can only post 2 pics at a time. Hope you like it....It might not be fabulous, there are errors, but so many skills went into completing it...technology, poetry, math, language art, typing skills, art, patience, proofreading with lots of editing...etc.

I'm so proud of my kidlets....They really did a bang up job:-4

My wee ones have read a story called "How My Family Lives in America." It's a lovely, narrative story told by an 8 yr. old child about her experiences living in America, and at the same time keeping her cultural experiences of China alive. The story mentioned eating yummy, cold sesame noodles...

Today I gave my kidlets a Chinese treat.....wooohooooo.....I'm going to post the rest of this in the red color as that will bring our children good luck:-6

I surprised my kidlets today with a Chinese treat. OMG, They had a great, unexpected, blusterful afternoon.

Before lunch, I told the kids not to eat a lot because I had a wee treat for them after their lunch.

I set up our classroom table like you would a buffet table...On the table we had a gigantic bowl of cold, spaghetti noodles that I cooked last night, a take out Chinese carton, chop sticks, fortune cookies, almond cookies, sesame seeds and soy and duck sauce, and scallions.

I also placed red, construction paper on their desk as a place mat. They formed a line and helped themselves to all the goodies and sat in glee eating this new treat.

This was such a special day for me because my children this year are so appreciative and full of beans. They love all that we do, and that makes me want to do more for them.

I did love my last 2 classes, but too often some of the children didn't appreciate anything or want to join in....They were difficult at times for sure:(

My kidlets also met their new 5th grade buddies for snack time and they all had a great time.

So, today was good for me...but now I'm going to crash in a bit as the stress of organizing everything is finally over:p

You know the district that I work with;) I'm so lucky to be working here as they are so respectful of all of their membership and do all that they can for us. I'd like to teleport over and personally kick the tightwad dupas of those mean spirited baskets. They probably rely on exploiting kind hearted people like you Kathy. GRRRRRRR

I know primary school teachers here take in an occasional treat for the kids at Christmas or maybe some Easter eggs - but not class teaching supplies. Though families are asked to save and bring in things like egg cartons, autumn leaves, old magazines, bottle tops, cotton reels etc for craft. Parentls and carers also help out on excursions and class projects.
