I've fallen in love with stouts. My favorite thus far is Nitro. What a fantastic beer that is!

You could try a bottle of Pickled Santa, some Bishop's Tipple, Old Speckled Hen or Theakstons Old Peculier.

I have tried Old Speckled hen and Old Peculiar. Both are great beers in their own right, but I find the British ales are not as carbonated as I like. They seem flat compared to American ales. No offense, just an observation, and my personal preference.

We have an abundance of local breweries popping up around the area and they are making some fine beers. I gravitate mostly to the India Pale ales and Imperial pale ales. Lots of hops and tons of flavors.

Deliberately so - we don't like fizzy pop over here, neither do we like our beer at near frozen temperatures so you might find our beer too warm for your taste as well

If you find the bottled / canned beers flat then you'll not believe the beer out of the barrel :wah:

Each to their own, the OSH is not my favourite beer but the OP comes close as does the Bateman's XXX and Wadsworth's 6X - as you say, personal preference.

Yes, I have noticed that drinking a beer or ale out of the old "frozen mug" takes away some of the flavor of the beer and all you taste is cold. I have started just using a beer glass not frozen. Sam Adams designed some drinking glasses made specifically for their beers and these seem to work well with just about any brew.

I go for the traditional :-

I first tried it in a pub in Brussels, years ago, and found it wanting, with all the great beers to be had in that city.

That was back before the big marketing push to make it a global beer.

I later tried it on a couple of other trips to Europe. It always tasted nasty to me, like a can of Schaeffer's left out in the sun for a few days.

I haven't worked up the nerve to try it since it made the crossing.

My wife and I spent a weekend in Bruges a few years ago. Two bartenders refused to serve us Stella. "you get that at home, try something different" They were right of course (along with Leffe, which is much nicer). Belgium has so much more to offer. Most of it very strong too and each served in its own peculiar glass. We plan on going back to sample one or two more.....or three or four

I find Leffe to be too strong & I don't like it's taste. Flat. I think it's my son's favorite beer.

English beer is the best in the world.
